Marte to the DL

Featured Replies

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 11:18 AM)
Since when is Cotts a lefty specialist?  He is worse against lefties than righties.  Marte is the only guy close to a lefty specialist that we have out of the bullpen and he is now on the DL.

Where did I say he was? I said he was going to be the 3rd lefty out of the pen, and even if he is the lefty specialist, he won't get much work as we already have guys who can get out lefties.

Stanton will want to go somewhere where he is going to be a first or second option.

Arnie Munoz vs. Kevin Walker is a toss up. Munoz has given up 65 hits in 61 innings and has 54 K's. AAA hitters are batting .277 vs. Munoz.

Walker has 27 K's in 24 innings and AAA hitters are batting .250 vs. him.

Both guys have an annoying tendancy to walk hitters. Neither is a great option but that's all they have.

Maybe it has something to do with when Munoz pitched last? The Sox may need a guy who can give them several innings, today or tomorrow, just in case. There is always something behind the scenes we don't know about, remember that.

I guess Stanton would never get any better against righties, huh?  Look at what he did last season...

http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/stats/ml...2681&statType=2

He is a lot better pitcher than what he has shown with the Yankees this season.

I see waht you are saying, but he also had alot of innings pitched compared to the year before, and the highest walk total since 1997. With his age, it doesnt look like its getting better for him.

He is definitely worth taking a flyer on though.

I am aware of guaranteed contracts. Really I am. If you think that the Yankees will trade him ot an AL contender then you are insane. Like I said, NL-maybe. But they won't help the Orioles, White Sox, etc. intentionally. If they can send him to Florida they will.

Let's see...

1.) Marte is now on the DL which means we only have one lefty in the bullpen.

2.) That lefty (Cotts) is better against righties than lefties.

3.) Hermanson may have to go on the bereavement list because of his father's illness.

4.) Vizcaino sucks.

I'm pretty sure that Stanton would get an opportunity to pitch if he was in our bullpen.

Yes again get him, also, he has lots of playoff experience.

Why? If they are designating him for assignment as expected, any A.L. team could claim him. :huh

By the way, the Marlins are interested in Quantrill, not Stanton.

3 World Series rings with the Yankmees.

how about we bring up the Bull

Arizona is looking for some arms to win their division, I'm sure they'd be willing to give anyone a look right now. I bet one of Borowski, Quantrill or Stanton will end up there, where they will be a solid option.

If the Sox claim him outright, they have to pay that salary, which they won't do. The Yankees may just release him right away vs. waiting the 10 days, out of respect for Stanton. They've clearly decided they don't want him anyway.

Personally I expect they'll just release him, pay his contract and wherever he ends up, he ends up.

And yes, I agree the Sox should look into it. If he doesn't work out, they can do the same thing.

Yeah and Stanton will be looking at just the next 10 days of activity when he looks where to sign. :rolly Nevermind, it isn't worth it.

Agreed, which means that the Sox could just sign him to a much cheaper contract.

Stop.

I think JimH is right. I think that the Yankmees will just dump him right away so he can catch on with another team. I don't think they will keep him in limbo for the full 10 days.

Whats wrong with bringing up a double A pitcher... He couldnt do any worse than Walker..

When the Sox brought up Radinsky in the 90's from single A he was a great pitcher

Prorated minimum for the rest of '05. My guess is Stanton wants to see what he has left, position himself for a 2006 contract with some team if he chooses to remain playing.

Logic says what better way to do that than with a contender? I suspect the White Sox won't be the only team sniffing around him though.

Well, we need a lefty and we don't really have any quality MLB-ready lefties in the minors.

There's nothing wrong with bringing up an effective AA pitcher, the key word is effective. Check his stats, go to Baseball America, then let's discuss. He's been hurt and generally ineffective.

Agreed, but I definately think that Kenny is already thinking about Stanton. If he was interested in Jim Brower, he will surely be interested in a lefty like Mike Stanton right after Marte goes on the DL. Kenny isn't f***ing around this year.

What in the name of Aunt Esther? KW.....why the hell would we recall f***ing Walker.

The only pitcher from AA that should get a shot is Jenks. The only reason for that is because his stuff is filthy. Mentally he might not be ready, and his control will need to be better. But as a 7 inning guy. Sure.

I would of brought up Baj and Jenks and pointed and laughed at Kevin Walker.
