Iguchi should be the regular starting 2B, but Willie should be playing more often.  Iguchi looks like he could use a rest, and Willie is a better defensive 2B anyway.

Iguchi has been rested quite often throughout the course of the season. He's hit a speed bump. He'll be ok.

Also I want to take on the myth that people overrate Iguchi for his ability to move runners over. To do that all you have to do is go back and look at 2001-2004 and look at the line up that we had, and the inconsistancies that came with playing for the 3 run HR. Sure we scored 10 runs a lot more often, but we also scored 0-1 runs a lot more often as well. Guys like Tadahito Iguchi and Scott Podsednik make the offense a ton more consistant, and put the pressure on the pitchers to be perfect to our most dangerous hitters, whereas our opponents never had the problems for the last 4 seasons. With a runner at 3B there is an eminent danger of someone scoring. The Sox don't need 3 hits to get a run this year, many times they only need one. How many more innings are we scoring in because fo this?

 

This year we get a runner on 1B you have to look for the bunt and/or you have to look for the steal. You get the infield in motion, you create pressure, you create confusion. Once again, this is all stuff that doesn't show up on the stat page, but it is all a reality on the field.

 

Go ahead throw the .267 batting average at me. Go out and play the game and appreciate the difference of all of the variables I am talking about vs playing against the 2001-2004 White Sox on a day to day basis, and what ends up happening is exactly what the Sox are doing. They make their own breaks, and literally let other teams beat themselves. Look at our record guys, the best record in 105 years speaks for itself. If this would have lasted a month, you might have been able to call it a fluke. This is almost 4 months of baseball now. There is a reason we are 62-32, and guys like Iguchi are it.

If you remember spring training, Willie had a legitimate chance to win the job. He did not. The White Sox have the best record in baseball, and are 10 games ahead of Minnesota. Iguchi has been solid. There is only one reason Willie Harris isn't starting. That reason is Willie Harris.

Let's  be Honest here. Gooch has been sucking it up since april.  We have not really given Willie Harris a shot at the starting spot at 2b. Reminds me of 2003 when we kept pushing Rowand a side in favor of Carl Everett. 

Anyone think it's not willie's turn now?  Harris has better D, he has more speed, and Im sure he can hit .267.  Remember what he was hitting last year before he got hurt?  If I re-call willie had a very successful April and May in 2004 before crashing into Maggs.  He was hitting around .300 consistently and was stealing more bags. 

Why won't  Harris start? The  thread title speaks for itself.

Before I get bashed. I want everyone to have at least an open mind with this. Back up your argument with facts. I think this is a very debatable subject.

Let's  be Honest here. Gooch has been sucking it up since april.  We have not really given Willie Harris a shot at the starting spot at 2b. Reminds me of 2003 when we kept pushing Rowand a side in favor of Carl Everett. 

Anyone think it's not willie's turn now?  Harris has better D, he has more speed, and Im sure he can hit .267.  Remember what he was hitting last year before he got hurt?  If I re-call willie had a very successful April and May in 2004 before crashing into Maggs.  He was hitting around .300 consistently and was stealing more bags.

Do you not see Iguchi put a grounder to the right side almost every time Pods is on to get him over. You don't get batting average points for doing the right thing sometimes.

ditto. The reason Iguchi's numbers are down is becuase he is helping out the team by moving the runner along and sacrificing himself. If he wanted to play for himself he'd have better numbers. This guy is a team player.

Iguchi's numbers are down because he is hitting terribly. Sure he hits some grounders to the right side when Podsednik is on 2nd with no one out. But I would bet the BA points he has lost from this are no more than the BA points he has gotten from Podsednik putting defenses in movement and from pitchers throwing up cookies to him because they are thinking about Podsednik running.

 

Iguchi leads the team in strikeouts and only Dye had grounded into more double plays. He has had a below average offensive year. Some has said he is the best #2 hitter in the league. That is as absurd as it gets. He has been poor, being a good #2 hitter is much more than just moving runners along, you have to be a good hitter in general too. Iguchi started off very good but has been bad for almost two months. Still, it would be a mistake to take him out of the lineup because in general it is obvious that he is struggling (as opposed to not being good) and he still a better option than Willie Harris

I agree with you 500,000,000%!! Willie deserves to start more, and he's better! yes Gooch has done awesome in clutch situation in the #2 hole, but still, willie should have more playing time!

Yeah, Scott Podsednik has stolen 50 bases and is battin .300 and has been a key to the Sox success and has been a fabulous lead-off hitter and was even an all star, but still, Timo should have more playing time!

Well said, Harris has had many chances over the years. 1 of many good reasons why he shouldnt be in the Majors let alone the Sox, is he cant even bunt a guy to 2nd or 3rd even when he's trying to do that? Guy is pathetic , hopefully there is some GM with the same mind frame you have , I highly doubt it though!

did you watch the game? I credit him for the walks . He looked lost on the base paths . That double was should have been caught.
