Anyone realize they are only 4 games out? Good for them.

I forgot a Wild Card existed.

Harold Reynolds just hopped on the Detroit bandwagon. They're toast.

Me to considering the last 3+ years the team that won the World Series were Wild Card teams.. :P

People b**** about small market teams all the time. About how teams like Pittsburg have no shot at winning, and they're always crying poor.

Want to know why they lose? Because they make stupid decisions, like not protecting Chris Shelton on your 40-man roster. The kid had a .962 OPS in the minors, and they don't protect him.

And now he's in our division. And man, it looks like he can rake.

The Pirates organization is "retarted" anyways. How the hell can you trade a talent like Ramirez and get absolute garbage players (B. Hill was pretty decent but not a star) and also trade tons of other great talent is beyond me. Thank god they got a O. Perez cause Giles was their only ticket they didn't screw up for a hot commodity.

That Jason Bay guy isn't doing too badly for himself.

Zach Duke and Ian Snell may mark the turn around for that franchise. Oliver Perez is a talent and those two could add to make a stud top 3. Add Kip Wells (who I still like and is a decent starter) and Jason Bay and they have pieces to build around. They just have to make the right moves.

I was just at Comerica for Saturday night's game against the Twins. If the Tigers are in the wild card hunt, I think someone forgot to tell them and their fans.

The ballpark is great but the place was half empty. The Tigers were listless and were playing a bunch of rookies and backups - I know they played a noon makeup game before that. But still, there was no buzz or sense of urgency to me.

It seemed as though everyone was playing the season out.

If Dave Littlefield has proven one thing over the past however many years he has been the GM of the Pirates, it's that he does not make the right moves.

One of his lone good moments was the Ritchie trade. And then he redeemed himself for that deal by essentially giving the Sox Marte(given, Seattle had also given up on Marte, but why deal an arm like Marte when you are rebuilding anyways? Just doesn't make sense to me in hindsight)

That organization's fascination with McClendon and Littlefield is beyond me.

Hey the Pirates made 2 really good deals... got Oliver Perez and Jason Bay for Brian Giles... and than Kip Wells and Josh Fogg for Todd Ritchie.....

He isnt all bad trades but yeah that Aramis Ramirez trade was just utterly stupid.

I'm a fan of Mcclendon. Anyways as far as the Tigers go if they add another starting pitcher in the offseason and find some consistancy in their bats then they're going to be pretty good, pretty soon. For whatever reason they have a lot of guys in their lineup who are putting up good individual seasons but they don't score a lot of runs. They're close imo but they're atleast a year away from making a serious run at the playoffs.

He didn't have an option with Marte. Literally. He had to either trade him or lose him as Marte did not make the club out of spring training and was out of options.

They just sent down Curtis Granderson and kept Nook Logan as the everyday CF. Idiots.

Was Littlefield in charge when Jason Schmidt was traded with John Vander Wal to the San Francisco Giants for Armando Rios and Ryan Vogelsong? (God Vogelsong sucks)

Or letting Arroyo getting picked up by the Red Sox?

Or trading Jon Lieber for Brant Brown?

God he sucks. :headshake

I know he did pretty well against big league pitching, but minor league experts keep talking about his raise in power in return for a lot more strikeouts. Think Corey Patterson. They wanted him to be a leadoff type guy and is value is highest as such, but his strikeouts are alarming. I think they want him to work on that before bringing him up for an extended period. He had 5 Ks in 22 at-bats, not horrible, but he had 112 in AAA. :o

Detroit's only what 4 or 5 games out of the wild card though. Getting Maggs back into that lineup has made it far more dangerous, and having Granderson hitting #8 made it a whole lot more deeper. Yeah he needs to work on cutting down the K's, but with the Tiggies still in it, I dunno how they can justify having Nook Logan and his 4 extra base hits and 2 RBI in over a month and a half.

They've got Polanco leading off anyway, and they have Brandon Inge as well. Granderson probably should be hitting more in the middle of the order.

Didn't Polanco go on the DL recently?

He was back playing yesterday IIRC.

I guess my point was you can't expect Granderson to continue hitting at the rate he was.
