July 28, 200520 yr QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) He was effective for how many years in Japan? MLB figured him out in 1 year, lmao. He will be effective again. He lost his release point, and we lost our patience. I think his experience and maybe working with his old pitching coach should restore shingo. He just needs his breaking balls to be called strikes and we are in business!
July 28, 200520 yr QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) He's not a regular like Sanberg but he has written a few columns. They have like 20 ex MLB players writing for them. Oh.. Like BlackJack did last year I assume.
July 28, 200520 yr QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) He will be effective again. He lost his release point, and we lost our patience. I think his experience and maybe working with his old pitching coach should restore shingo. He just needs his breaking balls to be called strikes and we are in business! He is almost 37 years old. Can't it be that he's just losing it?
July 28, 200520 yr QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 04:58 PM) Oh.. Like BlackJack did last year I assume. Exactly.
July 28, 200520 yr Do you guys mean Todd Jones? He was writing columns for Sporting News and still does. He is also the closer for the Marlins.
July 28, 200520 yr This is good news for our bullpen. I hope he can fix his problems and come back to help this ball club.
July 28, 200520 yr QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 05:10 PM) This is good news for our bullpen. I hope he can fix his problems and come back to help this ball club. If he can fix his problems than Leaky Luis will be gone.
July 28, 200520 yr QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) Do you guys mean Todd Jones? He was writing columns for Sporting News and still does. He is also the closer for the Marlins. No Doug Jones was a closer with the Indians, and pitched for several other teams. He couldn't break a pane of glass with one of his pitches, but he had a great change and located well. He looked like a weekend softball player and had one of those moustaches you have to lift up with one hand while you shove food in your mouth with the other. Edited July 28, 200520 yr by Dick Allen
July 29, 200520 yr QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) Yeah we caught thunder in a jar with that guy. Edited July 29, 200520 yr by knightni
July 29, 200520 yr QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) Hahaha LMAO. He obviously meant lightning....
July 29, 200520 yr QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) No Doug Jones was a closer with the Indians, and pitched for several other teams. He couldn't break a pane of glass with one of his pitches, but he had a great change and located well. He looked like a weekend softball player and had one of those moustaches you have to lift up with one hand while you shove food in your mouth with the other. yeah but Todd Jones has the column for the SN that you are thinking of.
July 29, 200520 yr QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:05 PM) I was purposely trying to be humorous by replacing 'lightning' with 'thunder', and 'bottle' with 'jar'. It's just lost on you people isn't it?
July 29, 200520 yr Two things about Shingo: - Part of his struggles is control, the other is that hitters know what to expect from him. Last year, hitters were chasing all of his pitches, even if they weren't close to the zone. This year, he's not a novelty. - Japanese pitchers have a history of breaking down fast late in their career. When they're in the early stages of their professional career, they throw an insane amount of pitches. 200 pitches a game is not uncommon for them.
