when you have the best record in baseball other players arent gonna allow a trade to happen. they will put in a waiver claim and block the trade.

No way.

Griffey would clear waivers without a shadow of a doubt.

I think a good major league reliever could be had over waivers. Any good reliever would probably be scooped up by the BoSox though. If one gets by worth signing, I say KW shouls sign him.

i agree that we should, but if we needed one, my only qualm is that, we could have had one at the deadline and we didnt, and instead we are bringing up jon adkins

Vizquel would clear waivers, that is if either SD or Ariz get their heads out of their asses and put some distance between them and SF

A lot of players will clear waivers. It happens every year. And every year there is always a best team in baseball out there.

Remember Larry Walker last year people.

Honestly, I also don't see anyone passing through waivers that we can get unless it's Ken Griffey Jr.

The thing is though almost everybody is put on waivers during the season so they can see what teams might want for that certain player. I'm sure a lot of White Sox players have been put on waivers.

I believe teams pretty much put EVERYONE on waivers. If someone claims them, the team will pull them back. Although, you have to be careful with the waiver claims because someone might actually let that player go and you are stuck with them.

if the d-backs fall out of the race(which is almost impossible in that division) do you think they might trade Tony Clark. He would like good in a Sox uniform.

ESPN said that one reason nobody wants Griffey is that he is owed almost 60 mil. Alot of it deferred through 2024. No one wants to pay him for the next 19 years.

Here is the list MLB.com thinks will be able to clear waivers:

With that in mind, here's a rundown of possible August trade candidates:

Boston Red Sox: OF Manny Ramirez

New York Yankees: OF/IF Tony Womack

Baltimore Orioles: RHP Sidney Ponson; LHP Steve Kline

Tampa Bay Devil Rays: 1B Travis Lee; SS Alex Gonzalez

Chicago White Sox: RHP Jose Contreras

Minnesota Twins: LHP J.C. Romero; RHP Joe Mays

Cleveland Indians: RHP Bob Wickman; RHP Kevin Millwood

Detroit Tigers: DH Dmitri Young; OF Rondell White

Kansas City: 1B Mike Sweeney; RHP Jose Lima; OF Terrence Long

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim: 1B Casey Kotchman

Seattle Mariners: LHP Jamie Moyer; LHP Eddie Guardado

Atlanta Braves: RHP Dan Kolb

Philadelphia Phillies: 1B Jim Thome; LHP Billy Wagner; RHP Ugueth Urbina; 1B Ryan Howard

Milwaukee Brewers: 1B Lyle Overbay

Cincinnati Reds: OF Ken Griffey Jr.; 1B Sean Casey; SS Rich Aurilia; LHP Eric Milton; C Jason LaRue

Pittsburgh Pirates: LHP Mark Redman; RHP Jose Mesa

San Francisco Giants: OF Marquis Grissom; OF Alex Sanchez

How would 1b Ryan Howard from Philly clear waivers? He can't possibly be making that much money. I would still love to have Griff Jr/Overbay, Guardado and Wagner. We should know by the end of next month who is still in it or not. The Reds and Mariners are obvioulsy out, but hopefully Philly and the Brew Crew will be out of it by then as well. Pitching prospects/outfield prospects and Contreras should get us two of those guys I would think.

Welp, here's hoping the Phillies fall completely out of it and/or we get Guardado.

What would the Phillies falling out of contention have to do with Seattle trading Eddie? :P

If both happened, we'd have a better chance at getting at least one of them.

EDIT: Yes, phrased badly.

Something I had not considered before when it comes to the waiver wire: 3-team trades. How does the league treat those? Is it possible a weaker team like Sea could help the White Sox obtain a player on waivers?

No way, someone would pick up Omar well before he ever came to the Sox.

Remember every team in the NL would get a chance at him first and than every team in the AL (since the Sox have the best record). No way would he go unclaimed, imo.

Every year pretty much the entire team gets put through waivers. Its just something you do to open up possibilities.

Some guys slide, but if its a reasonably priced player its highly unlikely to happen. Typically its guys with larger contracts or guys will get claimed and the teeam that claimed him will work out a trade with the team that put the players through waivers.

No good reliever is gonna get past the BoSox, imo.

Howard and Kotchman won't clear waivers, that's just dumb.

Overbay would be a huge coup, if he was able to slide through waivers to some team.

Contreras wouldn't be able to clear waivers. Yanks would pick him up right away. If not them, the Red Sox.

I've got a waiver question.

Since we are last in line, having the best record, are we completely unable to block any waiver trade moves consumated by teams with lesser records?

If so, this concerns me. I'm not worried about Huff and Baez, since LaMar isn't getting more than he just turned down. But I wonder about Guardado, who I would still like to see on the Sox, but who would definitely get claimed before we could get to him.

Who knows the answer?
