September 10, 200520 yr Now that rosters have expanded, why are we using Blum. He has hit about .200 with the Sox. Why not Dye at first and Anderson or Borchard in the outfield if you want to rest Konerko? He may be a great guy, but offense early in the game and bring him in late for defense.
September 10, 200520 yr People may hate him but the guy hits the ball hard and is not a horrible offensive player. I like Geoff Blum.
September 10, 200520 yr Author I am not arguing with the pickup. I just think with expanded rosters we have the opportunity to use some of the players we brought up to give a offensive spark.

September 10, 200520 yr QUOTE(lord chas @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 10:55 PM) yep borchard should have pinch hit for dye. if ozzie wouldnt use him why even bring him up Why would you pinch hit a player like Borchard for one of your best hitters?
September 10, 200520 yr QUOTE(lord chas @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 10:55 PM) yep borchard should have pinch hit for dye. if ozzie wouldnt use him why even bring him up Huh?!? Are you serious? Why??
September 10, 200520 yr I'm not a big fan of Bum, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that Joe Borchard is preferable.
September 10, 200520 yr QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 11:03 PM) I'm not a big fan of Bum, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that Joe Borchard is preferable. He was suggesting pinch-hitting Borchard for Dye.
September 10, 200520 yr Blum had a chance to win some fans tonight and get the hit in extras to win it. He didn't. Don't like him.
September 10, 200520 yr QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 11:10 PM) Blum had a chance to win some fans tonight and get the hit in extras to win it. He didn't. Don't like him. We had like 8 hits in 11 or 12 innings. You're going to blame this on Blum? I'm not the biggest fan of his but come on. Besides, he had more hits tonight than Iguchi and Everett combined. September 10, 200520 yr QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 10:19 PM) 1 bad game shouldn't automatically make you hate a player. It wasn't a bad game even.
September 10, 200520 yr QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) It wasn't a bad game even. He was 1 for 5. He hit the ball hard 4 out of his 5 ABs.
September 10, 200520 yr QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) He was 1 for 5. He hit the ball hard 4 out of his 5 ABs. Not to mention he was robbed of a rbi(chances are) in his first ab.
September 10, 200520 yr I dont like Blum at all. He strikeouts alot, leaves runners on base, doesnt advance runners ever, has the same swing point on every pitch "breaking ball, splitter, slider..." doesnt adjust And doesnt play a very good third base. Has already commited several errors and bone headed plays over there. Not really what I consider a good player.... not even a good utility player. Ozuna is MUCH better than he is and that's saying lot considering how much 3rd base can be an adventure for him.

A lot better than say Tadahito Iguchi. 3 - Yep his fielding percentage and errors at 3rd for us ain't great, but they're way below the norm for him.
September 10, 200520 yr Has Blum helped us win any games? He could have won tonight's game at the plate and didn't. He just hasn't done anything.

Util players aren't going to win you many games. There were 8 other guys with a chance to win the game tonight and failed. That's hardly a reason to dislike a player.

September 10, 200520 yr QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 10:57 PM) Define horrible. Chris Carpenter Seriously though, Blum has been killing the ball lately, not a lot of hits to show for it though.

As a utility infielder, fine. But not regular duty. Please.
September 10, 200520 yr QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 10, 2005 -> 12:01 AM) Chris Carpenter Seriously though, Blum has been killing the ball lately, not a lot of hits to show for it though. He must be the unluckiest SOB in the majors then, cause he's 4 batting average points away from being a sub .200 AVG, sub .250 OBP, and sub .300 SLG with the Sox.

He's been about as unlucky as they come lately, he really is hitting hte ball hard.
