On the bright side.....

I'm seeing a lot of posts that say "If we lose tomorrow, we're done". Says who? There's a definite chance we'll lose the game tomorrow. You know what, even if we do....we still lead the Indians by 4.5 games. It's been obvious for a few days now that our playoff situation would revolve around how we do against the Indians. It's up to Ozzie to keep this team together. Don't give up on this team though. They're going to need our support more than ever next week against a superior team in the Indians.

The loss column is the most important thing. And we still have a 6 game "cushion" there.

I noticed 1 thing in your post there...you called the Indians a "Superior" team, despite the fact that we've beaten up on the Indians a lot this year. That says something.

I think the fact is that if we lose tomorrow, not only will we all be in panic mode, either the Sox themselves will have to be in panic mode, or they simply won't care at all. Either way, it would be a very bad sign.

Yes, I've made no secret of the fact that I think the Indians are a better team than the White Sox. We dominated them when their talent was underachieving, and ours was overachieving. Now, if we go play them good to end the season, we'll make the playoffs.

Yeah, I get the feeling that Fathom and I have been two of the biggest pessimists around here lately, but I don't think this game mattered any more than the one before it, or the one tomorrow. We're not done. We could be, but we're not right now.

Tonight's loss was just eminently predictable. First inning Freddy against a team he didn't care about, and a bunch of guys who thought they had it won in the 4th inning.

The sun will come up tomorrow, and the Sox will play predictably. Buehrle pitching well against a poor team, scoring just enough runs to get the win thanks to a couple of solo shots and will be right with the world again.

Ya but we've beaten up on an Indians team alot earlier this season. This current Cleveland team is a serious threat. They've gotten alot of things together, and IMO I wouldn't even consider those first 13 games against them to be even the same caliber of team.

Hello darkness my old friend...

What the hell. Maybe they'll sneak into the playoffs and surprise us. Let's hope so. Cause I ain't looking forward to Minny playing spoiler this weekend while the AAAA royals ride into Cleveland. Six could be three before you know it. Wait, this is supposed to be an optimistic thread.

We own Cleveland and will be up nine games by Friday next week.

Ok, here's my on the bright side post...

On the bright side, I'm heading home and grabbing some dinner. G'd night all.

What a great song. I love that f***ing movie.

Are the Indians really any better than they were earlier in the season? I'm going to say no. They've had a very favorable schedule since the All-Star break, when they were 47-42. The teams they've played and their record against them during that span.

Chicago White Sox- 0 wins, 4 losses

Kansas City Royals- 5 wins, 2 losses

Seattle Mariners- 5 wins, 2 losses

Oakland A's- 3 wins, 3 losses

New York Yankees- 2 wins, 1 loss

Detroit Tigers- 9 wins, 1 loss

Tampa Bay Devil Rays- 5 wins, 2 losses

Texas Rangers- 2 wins, 1 loss

Baltimore Orioles- 3 wins, 0 losses

Toronto Blue Jays- 2 wins, 1 loss

Minnesota Twins- 4 wins, 2 losses

They're not exactly beating up on the great teams of the world. Notice an abscence of games against the Red Sox and Angels, getting crushed by us, a mediocre set of series against the A's, and one good series against the Yankees. They've beat teams that they are supposed to, but there aren't a whole lot of big games in there. Is the better play recently really an improvement, or a result of a favorable schedule when compared to our nightmarish August schedule? I'm leaning towards the latter, although we'll see when we play.

I'm just not sure how much longer...

point taken....only thing is they play KC 7 more times and tampa 3 more....their other 6 are against us. if we dont at minimum split...you can kiss the division good bye and say hello to the WC hopefully

We played the easy teams in the first half mostly, and Cleveland played them in the second half. Its who wins the division games that will take the crown. We need to win this series, need to beat MIn, then cle, and we are home free.

Santana vs. El Duque. I'm confident.

Hopefully El Duque wont be distracted with the noises coming from the Twins dugout because of the fight for bats in the bat rack.

El Duque vs. Santana? I agree, how comforting

I really think B Mac shold take over El Duque's spot. How much does he have to sck for Ozzie to do soemthing about it?

Edited by TheBigHurt

Don't discount the D-Rays. They beat up on the Yankees (except for last night) and have been playing better recently. The Royals are only playing for next year. These are what we call spoilers. Neither team has anything to lose and are playing for roster spots. They scare me more than the Clevelands and 'Sotas of the world because we KNOW those two will be tighter coming into a series. D-Rays and Royals play looser. Well, the D-Rays will.

How many times did Timo play this year. That should answer your question on suckage and playing time.
