October 8, 200520 yr I've been hearing a lot of people saying lately that Konerko won't be worth any more budget inflations, or that he will prolly be picked up by someone else next year. WE CAN'T LET THAT HAPPEN! I'm not saying he's worth an immense fortune, but as long as we can possibly keep him, we need him! He has proved himself time and time again this year he's a solid 1st Baseman and one of the best hitters we have. PAU-LY! PAU-LY! PAU-LY!
October 8, 200520 yr What we need is paul Konerko and Frank Thomas both back. The Big Hurt hitting third and Paulie 4th. We lacked that true #3 hitter this season and Frank showed us his professionalism and his team spirit plus he hit for power when he was in the lineup. He and Paulie can lead the offense. I would like to see Pods-Tad-Frank-Paulie-Dye-Rowand-AJ-Crede-Uribe.
October 8, 200520 yr wow.. too many emoticons >_ yes, we need Konerko back. If he's not back, we have no shot at all at the division title again next year, and our team will be a mess. Paulie is the rock of this offense.. bring him back!
October 8, 200520 yr Konerko is a huge reason why we are where we are right now. By all accounts, he's a clubhouse leader and no question a great representative of the organization. On a side note, I got into a baseball argument with a buddy of mine during spring training. Even to my loud objection, he insisted that Mike Sweeney was a better ballplayer than Konerko. After yesterday's game, my friend apologized and admitted his ignorance.
October 8, 200520 yr Because he was wrong obviously, Sweeney had 1 good year, in which was his only 100 RBI season
October 8, 200520 yr QUOTE(SoxRock192 @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 01:27 PM) For sure Are you high by any chance?
October 8, 200520 yr QUOTE(SoxRock192 @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) Because he was wrong obviously, Sweeney had 1 good year, in which was his only 100 RBI season He has 2 100 RBI years He's also a career .305 hitter
October 8, 200520 yr He had 144, and I meant great Oh great, on ESPN they just had that biased Red Sox book
October 8, 200520 yr Well mike sweeney is a great offensive player 2 and maybe he is better than Konerko but he cant stay healthy so that goes against him. As for Konerko I think he is important to resign and means a lot to this team. That being said if the price for him is outragous he isnt worth it... I also personally wouldnt give him any money guaranteed past 3 years. Like 3 years with an option for a 4th and a 5th would be ideal for me. That being said if we do lose him as long as we spend some money and bring some guys in I think we can still be just as good or better next season.
October 8, 200520 yr Author QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) Knock. It. The. f***. Off. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
October 8, 200520 yr QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) ok children. It's funny like the first two or three times, so shall we stop mimicking this guy? Thanks.
October 9, 200520 yr QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) The farther we go in the show, the more likely it is Paul will be with the Pale Hose for the long run. Agreed. And if he does a lot for the team later in the playoffs, it'll cost us.
October 9, 200520 yr We can't afford to lose him like you all said. We can't keep losing guys who can whack it out of the park.
October 9, 200520 yr As could have been predicted, the Tribune will run a story tomorrow saying how all of our divisional rivals are going to try and sign PK.
October 9, 200520 yr QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) The farther we go in the show, the more likely it is Paul will be with the Pale Hose for the long run. Due to increased revenue and ability to sign him? Or loyalty/rewarding him? It brings up an interesting subject. If the Sox win the ALCS and maybe then the WS, does Konerko get the money due to the role he played in this season and playoffs? Do the Sox reward him for his accomplishments? Who would be in favor of this? Or once this year is done, do you forget about it (from a managerial viewpoint) and try to assemble the best team, with the most logical payroll, for next year, forgetting about past accomplishments? Is it a mix of both? I think it's a very interesting subject. Edited October 9, 200520 yr by IlliniKrush
October 9, 200520 yr QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 12:50 AM) Due to increased revenue and ability to sign him? I think this is what tony was getting at and I'd tend to agree. Kenny's not dumb in fact he's become one of the better gm's in baseball and he realizes how important paul is to the team. Already making it this far will give us the ability to increase payroll a significant amount. The more money we have to spend the better chance we have to bring PK back.
