October 29, 200520 yr Looking ahead to 2006, I expect big things from Crede. It seems as if the playoffs have helped him mature and get better through experience. Have we witnessed the evolution of Joe Crede? Are we going to see what we expected from him as a prospect coming up in the minors? I, for one, am excited.
October 29, 200520 yr I expected big things out of Joe Crede at the beginning of each of the last two seasons and yet each year I find myself lowering my standards when it comes to Joe.
October 29, 200520 yr I agree. I think that we saw it happen after his injury, when he and Walker worked out the kinks in his swing. Lets face it, the glove has always been there, its his bat that has been suspect. I don't think that we will have to worry about him falling back to his .220 self. This is the new and improved version of Joe, the Rally-Crede!! He will shine!!
October 29, 200520 yr The thing about Joe Crede is: I don't think he'll ever hit .300 at the major-league level, and he'll frustrate us again with those damn popups, but from the 7th inning on, I don't know of anyone on this team I'd rather have at the plate with the tying or winning run on base. Crede has demonstrated an ability to get the CLUTCH hit that is very rare. Oh, and he should NEVER go close-cropped again with the hair. He NEEDS some hair floppin' under that cap. October 29, 200520 yr Joe just seems so much more comfortable with himself, at the plate and elsewhere.
October 29, 200520 yr he shouldn't cut his hair until the sox are mathematically out of the 2006, or 2007,or the 2008 world series.
October 29, 200520 yr If Joe can get that AVG up to .280 consistently for a few seasons, and keep hitting those 20-25 HR's, his value will be very good indeed. If he keeps repeating what he did in the playoffs, not swinging at the first pitch, not popping it up every AB, I think he can do it. Remember, right now he'll be the most confident he's every been at the major league level. That said, I still hope he's working out in that batting cage he built at his house in the off-season.
October 29, 200520 yr Its too hard to say. He played great. Did Carlos Beltran's Magical October turn over to 2005 success? No. There were relocation and injury issues there but its hard to base future success on a few weeks. Great postseason though
October 29, 200520 yr Author I think that AJ has had a good influence on him. Especially in the playoffs. We haven't had such a close knit group here like we have now. Joe, Po, and Row...do it!
October 29, 200520 yr I think I saw the Intelligent Design of Joe Crede at the hands of Greg Walker and Samsung. Carl Everett, however, does not believe in evolution. Improving is for non-believers.

Now its almost like he is not shy anymore, nor does he shy away from any attention. I think AJ may have just taught him not to give a s*** and just PLAY!
October 29, 200520 yr QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) I think I saw the Intelligent Design of Joe Crede at the hands of Greg Walker and Samsung. Yeah Carl believed in the "Let's aim for China" with each swing he took progressively in the 2nd half of the season.
October 29, 200520 yr Crede needs to learn that he can't pull every pitch. Until he learns that, there will be a frustrating amount of pop-ups.
October 29, 200520 yr Joe played great near the end there, but I'm skill skeptical. We all know he's prone to be a streaky hitter and has made adjustments at the plate before. Despite all my beratings, he's definitely earned a spot on the starting squad next year. What he does in the first half will determine whether we need to go out and find a replacement at the deadline or not. Joe was at the end of my rope for a long time this past season, this postseason earned him back an inch or two.

Hawk said on the rally that Joe came out of this very season a different man. Great things should be coming from him next year.
October 29, 200520 yr I was as frustrated at Crediocre as anyone else. Never a question about his defense, but unfulfilled batting average, definitely. I suspect, though, that he's getting into the "Garland" mode. That is, a player of great promise who FINALLY is realizing all that acclaimed talent.

That is sacreligious.
October 29, 200520 yr QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) You should be banned just for using that word. That is sacreligious. Sorry...he deserves his props for fantastic post-season play, but if anyone tells me they were never frustrated by his offense during the regular season, then he's fooling himself. Hell, even Crede said he did not object to the boos during the season. He said he thought he sucked. Let's not ban because we don't like others' words, please.
October 29, 200520 yr QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 07:09 PM) Hopefully that bomb off Oswalt to Right is a good sign of a new approach Similarly, it would do Pods some good to really focus on bunting for hits next season. Brett Butler is available - the Sox should consider bringing him in as a spring training instructor next year.

October 29, 200520 yr I hope this is the Crede we see next season.... what made it encouraging was because most of his hitting was in the ALCS and WS when he was constantly going up against good pitching....Im certainly willing to give him another season to figure things out.
