Bobby Abreu

That all sounds fine and dandy but the Phils still have to be willing to give up Abreu. The initial Wells for Abreu trade was proposed by the Jays and was quickly denied. So unless the Phils definetly want to dump his salary, its doubtful Abreu will be moved. :gosox3:

Pat Gillick's BIG on clubhouse chemistry. He showed in his time at Seattle even after RJ and Pay-Rod left, that they were still a succesful franchise.

If the right parts were available via trade or the FA market, and Gillick needs payroll to open that up, I wouldn't be suprised to see him move Abreu, although we all know Thome is likely the 1st option.

They'll have to rebuild that pen though, and add some groundball pitchers.

The Jays inquired about Abreu, but the Phils inquired about Wells. The BJ's then turned THAT down. So the Phils ARE willing to trade him. Obviously they would prefer to trade Thome and would explore those options first. However, it is also not out of the realm of possibility that they trade one of Abreu/Burrell as well.

You are trying way 2 hard lol  :bang

I got the itch...

and I got a buzz. Frankly, that's all you need.

Holy crap, he won a GG too? This guy's got all the accolades to be on this team. Let's take a step into fantasy world for a second... from one of the other threads (I think the Rowand one), Bruce said KW said from a salary standpoint PK+Delgado would be possible. So tickle your fancies with this lineup: Pods, Gooch, Abreu, PK, Thomas, Dye, AJ, Crede, Uribe. Steals at the top, power in the middle, clutch hitting at the bottom. Ok, yeah who would play CF. It would be worked out. Damn it, I need to put the controller down and walk away...

Huge downgrade defensively from Rowand to Pierre. Not to mention the fact that he'll be making atleast $7M next season through arbitration and is then a free agent. I'd still rather have Rowand in CF.

Also if you are going to have Pierre in the lineup, he should be leading off, he's a better leadoff hitter than Podsednik.

The Sox need to save their money and sign Konerko and Thmas. We have a solid outfield now. Plus why do some kind of a trade for a player earning way to much when we have Anderson, Borchard and others in wait.

Bobby Abreu is a great baseball player with a sensible contract. He's lightyears better than anyone we currently have in the outfield. Any such trade for him would alsmost certainly involve Rowand, so you'd see Anderson in CF next year. It would never happen but I would welcome Abreu into Chicago with open arms.

maybe you didnt notice the green, maybe it should be pink...that lineup is never gona happen but it would make the sox a better team then what they are now

Also, Pierre isnt that bad of an outfielder, he had I think less then 5 errors last year. His arm is really weak compaired to Aarons, but when you compair Aaron and Juans complete game, you can not say aaron is way better then pierre, they both have different things that they excel at. And how can you say Pierre is going to make 7 mil in the offseason? I find that number way to high

Why all the love for Abreu? He's a very good ballplayer, but he's way overpriced.

$29 million over the next two years, plus a $2 million buyout (instead of another $16 million in 2008). That's obscene.

If Abreu were a free agent, this would be too much money. To take it on and still give them a quality player like Aaron Rowand plus a pitcher makes it worse.

For $10-12 million/year as a free agent, Abreu would be a very nice fit for the Sox. He could take Everett's slot and be a very big upgrade. I'm sure Ozzie and he would get along very well.

All of this also applies to Carlos Delgado who hits better than Abreu but is due $44 million over the next 3 years.

The answer is no. I'm not sacrificing defense at CF for more pop in the lineup.

Pierre isnt that bad of an outfielder it comes down to this is everett and rowand better the pierre and abreu...the answer is NO

Last year Pods>>>>Pierre.

Last year Pods>>>>Pierre.

thats why i had pods hitting before pierre. there both great table setters, but you dont take pods out of the 1 spot because he didnt do anything to deserve that

I say the more venezualians the better. I think that Cabrera kid is from Venezuala too, bring him aboard.

Lets see, he's a 25 homer/100 rbi/.400 obp/30 steal guy, he's that left handed bat all of us have wanted for a while and he plays a solid right field. He would be such a perfect 3 hitter....I would absolutely love to have Bobby on this team.

44,

I can tell by your name you are also a big rowand fan like myself. If it ment to get rid of Aaron for Abreu would you make that deal from a personal stance? I know I would

I agree Abreu >>> Konerko, hes a better all around player. He's also a class act like Paulie, so it wont hurt the chemistry. But I can't help but think this is an enormous pipe dream.

LOL yea i no what you mean, but hell we won it all, we are going to sell out A LOT of our games next year, why not raise they payroll were it should have been for the last decaid.

If ever the Sox management wanted to vault the White Sox into the top of the attendance categories, now would be the time to do it. More spent now equals more revenue later. IF those rumors about the Sox' payroll going up are true, nothing spikes attendance, except for a World Series, like a big bat. Why not combine the two? Ultimate marketing strategy? I think so... as long as we don't give up the pitching.
