December 9, 200520 yr QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 12:01 AM) how much do you want to bet that he comes out and says he was misquoted. Yeah, in the Trade Winds thread I posted that I think they're going to patch this up, at least until the trade deadline... imagine what he might be worth then
December 9, 200520 yr QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 12:05 AM) Yeah, in the Trade Winds thread I posted that I think they're going to patch this up, at least until the trade deadline... imagine what he might be worth then i think you are right. Probably a ton. If they could get a couple of very good starting pitchers for him I would say do it.
December 9, 200520 yr Tejada was a leader on that club. But step back and look at what happened there last summer. Managerial change, Palmeiro's fiasco and the fiasco known as Sosa. That's a lot of BS to deal with ... I forgot all the Ponson stuff too ... and keep your mind focused on playing ML baseball. This game is tough enough to play when everything is going smooth. No way do I believe Tejada mailed it in for the second half. I'd take him in a heartbeat.
December 9, 200520 yr QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) I'd take him in a heartbeat. As would I, and the GM's of all other teams in the MLB. If you look at it from Baltimore's perspective, they're going to want some good starting pitching (Jon Garland), a good lefty reliever (Damaso Marte would have been handy), and a SS to replace Miggy (Juan Uribe). Boston will no doubt be the favorites for him if that's the path the O's try to take. I could see Washington making a play for him and offering Soriano (with Alfonso saying he wants to play 2B) so Roberts could move back to SS. But remember this about Miggy, he did have to put up with a lot of BS as YAS said. There were rumors of him not getting along with Sosa at all, and with everything that happened, even with Baltimore making a move today, you can probably see where he's coming from with this demand, even though he should probably just put up with where he is as he signed the contract. But don't forget either that Oakland hasn't made the playoffs either since Miggy left, and he really does have a great reputation around the league for making a team better, even though that hasn't been the case with the O's (but that's been because of the pitching).
December 9, 200520 yr Tejada should sleep in the bed he makes. Baltimore offerred him the most money and years so he signed with them. He couldn't realistically think they were going to be better than NY or Boston, could he? Now that he has his guaranteed contract, he asked to be moved. Sorry Miquel, the Orioles made a 6 year committment to you, the least you could do is recipricate.
December 9, 200520 yr I wonder what it would take to get a player of his caliber. I would consider him the best SS in the majors. Juan Uribe, El Duque, two top prospects and maybe a slightly lesser one?

Juan Uribe, El Duque, two top prospects and maybe a slightly lesser one? I just don't see anything less than McCarthy or Garland + Uribe + prospects getting Tejada. And I'm not sure the Orioles would even go for that.
December 9, 200520 yr Fine, I will say it. I would rather have Uribe. For the cost, the chemistry, the future, I would rather have Uribe and the team we have now. Discuss.
December 9, 200520 yr i dont see tejada diving to stands catching a ball in the world series. Ill stick with juan Urbie

THat would be probably correct unless they are going to bypass getting a great arm and instead try to get another name which is possible since its the Orioles

December 9, 200520 yr He was awesome in August and September when he gave up on his team. I think his OPS was all the way up to .700 for those two months. We don't need high priced drama. I like Juan.

We don't need high priced drama. I like Juan. I must be watching different games than others, because I think Tejada would be a huge upgrade over Uribe. If you put Tejada on our team instead of Uribe, the offense would be improved to the point where you could trade Garland and still feel like you have enough to compete for the championship. Also, I'm not too worried about Tejada's attitude. A lot of s*** went down with the Orioles, and I'm sure if he was in a competitive situation, he'd be busting his ass for 162 games.

As much as I love Juan, Tejada is a huge upgrade and would be a welcomed addition. That being said I would not trade Garland, period. I wouldn't trade Jon straight up for Miggy, our pitching staff is to damn good and when you have the 5 guys we have, that alone can lead you to a championship. I don't want to go through a whole season with the Duke as the 5th starter again even with an improved offense, it would make this team worse. Pitching>Hitting.
December 9, 200520 yr QUOTE(shakes @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) He's got 4/48 left on his contract. It's not going to happen. Yeah, that sounds a little too rich for our taste. I'd rather have the pitching and the extra cash.

I think that Juan is a better VALUE than Tejada. His price tag and what we would have to give up in a trade isnt worth it to me. I think Uribe is one step away from being at the top of the league for SS. Not only that but he is a team leader and a field general, it has been said that the hispanic population on the sox gravitate towards him and look up to him.

The key difference to me is that Tejada is signed for 4 more years, Garland has 1 year left. Garland for Tejada straight up is a no-brainer. Garland and Uribe (who the Sox wouldn't have a space for after Tejada comes aboad) for Tejada is a no-brainer, too. If that happened, you would use El Duque as a stopgap 5th starter next year. Since Gio and Haigwood are gone, you either pray that Broadway can be ready by 2007 (not likely) or look to the free agent market after the 2006 season.

Tejada is a better player than Juan, but it's all about value. Plus I think Juan is still improving at the plate while you know what you are going to get from Tejada.

I'd take him in a heartbeat. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> this is a guy playing a game for a living. sure its a lot of bulls***, but a person charactarized as a leader should be able to deal with it, especially one who made a six year committment to an organization. if winning was so important to him, he would have taken a pay cut to stay with a perennial playoff team in oakland. like i said, i love the guy as a player, but and he seems like a quality guy, but he is far from a leader.

And if any pitcher gets even remotely hurt or sucks for awhile we are screwed. We'd have good offense with no pitching. Just like 02-04. Do we not remember the pain of not having a decent 5th starter? It wasn't that long ago.
December 9, 200520 yr QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) no it doesn't. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> if he is traded he is able to opt out of his deal at any time, and has a full no trade clause beyond that point. once again, you're wrong.
December 9, 200520 yr He may want to be traded, but I really doubt Baltimore trades him. They are trying to attract stars, not rid themselves of them.
