idonno we traded for Garland right when he was elgible to be traded so Id consider him a sox prospect.

SP:Mark Buehrle

SP:Jon Garland

SP:Kip Wells

SP:Brandon McCarthy

SP:Josh Fogg

C:Josh Paul?/Mark Johnson

1B:Carlos Lee

2B:Ray Durham

SS:Michael Morse

3B:Joe Crede

LF:Aaron Rowand

CF:Mike Cameron

RF:Magglio Ordonez

DH:Frank Thomas

bullpen:Scott Eyre, Anthony Webster, Fabio Castro, Wickman, Howry(I know Giants drafted him but how early did we trade for him?), Frankie Francisco, Roger Ring?, Matt Ginter?

Not so sure about the bullpen guys but heck that team isnt so bad. I put Carlos Lee at 1B because assuming we never brought in f/a's or anything thats where he would play.

1. Webster is a CF

2. It's Royce Ring

royce ring was delt for robbie alomar right?  yikes, there's a not so good kenny move.  id consider it better if it was the first time alomar came to the sox, but i dont remember.

Yes, but Ring hasn't really panned out, so it's somewhat of a wash.

Yes, he was dealt. Ring had been nothing, but has shown some signs of improvement now that he's dropped his arm angle.

I want to know some Sox draft picks that have made a consistent above-average major league impact on the team for a considerable duration of time.

Off the top of my head:

Ozzie Guillen

I understood that we acquired Ozzie from the Padres in the LaMarr Hoyt trade.

I come up with 38 guys that the Sox drafted or signed as an amatuer free agent who played in the bigs in 2005. Three made the All Star team. There are probably a few more FA's I missed, and also not everyone they drafted signed, but on the whole they've developed some pretty good players.

Off the top of my head:

Ozzie Guillen

Now for some others who havent seemed to put it together:

Scott Ruffcorn

Scott Eyre

Joe Borchard

Aaron Myette

Josh Fogg

Its unfair, but Im going to call it a night and let you all discuss.  I may be wrong on whether we actually "drafted" some I named...but you see what Im getting at.

I am not discussing the merits of our drafting or the ethics of our dealings.

This is just an experiment, name some Sox prospects that panned out.

I think the Question sould be Which of the last SOX first round picks that lived up to it's hype.

I'll say Alex Fernandez.

Didn't mention Brian Boeringer who i think pitched for the pirates this year

You had me going, he was a 4th round Da by the Sox in 1991 but it turns out he didn't appear in '05. He was released by the Pirates Nov 2004.

Cool, OK. Maybe i'm thinking about Brian Meadows.

Ohh and who in the Heck is Tom Gorzelanny?

He's a lefty pitcher who never actually signed with the Sox but his name stuck with me because he is a local boy out of Marist and Triton JC.

Biography:

Thomas Stephen Gorzelanny (pronounced "gore-zah-LAWN-ee")...Single...Is a 2000 graduate of Marist (IL) High School, the same school which produced Minnesota Twins' Hall-of-Fame outfielder Kirby Puckett...Was drafted out of high school by the Chicago White Sox in the 38th round of the 2000 June draft, but opted to play collegiately at both the University of Kansas (2001-02) and Triton Junior College (2003) in River Grove, IL...After redshirting during the 2001 baseball season, went 3-7 with three saves and a 5.90 ERA in 21 appearances for the Jayhawks in 2002...Transferred to Triton J.C. for the 2003 season and was named a North Central Community College All-Conference selection...Was also a Region Four selection as a senior...Signed by Pirate scout Mark Germann.

2005 Career Highlights:

Spent entire regular season with Altoona (AA), but spent month of April in Extended Spring Training with left elbow discomfort... Led staff in strikeouts...Ranked ninth among Eastern League pitchers in ERA...Surrendered just six home runs in 129.2ip - all homers hit by right-handed batters...Allowed just two hits and tossed 6.0 scoreless innings for the win in his Double-A debut on 5/2 @Reading...Went 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA (24.0ip/4er) in his first four starts before losing for the first time on 5/26 vs. Norwich (4.0ip/3er)...Allowed just one home run in his first nine starts (49.1ip) thru 6/16. ...Tossed three-hit shutout on 6/26 vs. New Britain...Was the starting pitcher for the Southern Division in the Eastern League All-Star Game in Portland on 7/13 (ND - 2.0ip/4h/3r/1er/1bb/1so -- 11 batters faced)...Went 0-3 with a 4.50 ERA in five starts during the month of July...Snapped three-game losing streak by striking out season-high 10 batters in 5-2 victory @Erie on 8/2...Won each of his last four regular season decisions...Posted a 3-0 record and a 2.97 ERA in six starts during the month of August...Pitched just 3.0 innings on 8/28 vs. Akron; lef game with pain in his right knee...Also left his start on 9/3 vs. Bowie (5.0ip/2h/0r) due to an ankle injury...Went 1-for-18 (.056) with two walks at the plate, picking up his lone hit (single) on 6/16 @Norwich...Tossed a four-hit shutout and whiffed 13 batters (0 walks) in Game Three of Double-A playoff series against Akron on 9/9...Was promoted to Indianapolis (AAA) on 9/12 and started Game Two of International League Championship Series @Toledo on 9/14 (L, 5.0ip/9h/6r/6er/2bb/6so). ...Had contract purchased by Pittsburgh on 9/16...Made major league debut as a starter and lost a 7-4 decision to Houston's Andy Pettitte @PNC Park on 9/20 (4.1ip/7h/5r/5er/2bb/2so)...Also surrendered three runs in 1.0+ inning of relief @Los Angeles on 9/26 and retired two of the three batters he faced on 9/30 vs. Milwaukee...Went 0-for-1 as a batter, striking out in his lone appearance vs. Pettitte on 9/20.

Ohhh. Thanks for the Info. So he never made Pro Ball? After not sigining with the SOx?

We are still talking Tom Gorzelanny right? The Pirates signed him as an undrafted free agent (after Triton Junior college) and he made the bigs last September. I don't know if he will stick this spring, but he's a good one to keep an eye on.
