December 19, 200520 yr Paid a little more than I thought I saw 3yr 12 mil package .......I like AJ and glad he is back but may have overpaid a little. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Be happy that AJ is back and not worry about if he was overpaid. Edited December 19, 200520 yr by Pierzynski 12
December 19, 200520 yr Soxfest...Just look at what the Orioles gave Hernandez. He got more money per yr and no one is going to tell me he's better than AJ. I think they are on a similar level. I think you'll also see Bengie Molina eventually sign (if he goes multi year) for a few mill more than AJ. I will say this, over the course of a full season (if healthy) I think Bengie is the better of the 3 catchers (he's a good hitter, is slow as molasses, but is good defensively). AJ is a solid hitter and calls a hell of a game, plus he fits in well with the club (he also has all the intangibles of a winner).
December 19, 200520 yr Whoot! Good job by Kenny to keep our polish pimp on th S-side for 3 more awsome years...Now let's sign the rest of the ? marks!
December 19, 200520 yr This was a no-brainer. Kenny made a nice signing and may have gotten him for a little under open-market value. He's locked up. Well done. Pierzynski deserves to be this team's staple at C. Love this.
December 19, 200520 yr Very happy they got this done. And I think paid just right for a World Series Winning catcher.
December 19, 200520 yr QUOTE(Soxfest @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) Paid a little more than I thought I saw 3yr 12 mil package .......I like AJ and glad he is back but may have overpaid a little. Overpaid? He is going to make $5.5 million in 2008. That is a great deal for a starting catcher who handles the staff as well as he does. Also, his fielding numbers were pretty good too: .999 fielding percentage 119-game errorless streak This is just one more piece of the foundation that KW is building here. The Sox have a ton of players locked up for at least 2-3 years now, which is nice to see.
December 19, 200520 yr QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) Think this might mean Contreras will be signing an extension soon? I sure hope so, I'd like to see a 2 year deal for Jose with an option for a 3rd year. Something like this: 2006 - We already have him signed 2007 - 8 million 2008 - 8 million 2009 - 10 million team option with 3.5 million buyout So basically, 2 years, 16 million with a team option for 2009 at 10 million.
December 19, 200520 yr Great news...love the AJ. Now sign the Count, maybe Crede, and trade Garland. Then lets win the next couple WS Championships and call ourselves a Dynasty. Or maybe Sox-asty? Edited December 19, 200520 yr by tonyho7476
December 19, 200520 yr Everything is falling into place: -Non-tender Timo & Willie. -Sign Mack, sign Joe (hope they don't break the bank with him, considering he's got Boras as his agent). -Sign Jose for 3 years. -Wait for the calls to come in for Garland.
December 19, 200520 yr http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5181196 The deal, which enables Pierzynski and the club to avoid salary arbitration, could increase in value to $15.5 million if Pierzynski starts a predetermined number of games the next two seasons, triggering a clause that would increase his 2008 salary by $500,000. Pierzynski, who was eligible for free agency at the end of the season, will receive $4 million in 2006 and $5.5 million each in 2007 and '08.

December 19, 200520 yr Since we don't have anything close to a replacement for AJP in our system, it was vital to bring him back. Great move, and not too much money at all.

December 19, 200520 yr QUOTE(Pierzynski 12 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) Awesome news. Great news! AJ gave us that swagger we have lacked before '05.
December 19, 200520 yr we have the best GM in baseball. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Lets not get ahead of ourselves now.. KW has a done a great job this past year..Another couple of years of winning the DIV/ getting to the playoffs then yeah I will agree. That title goes to ATl or ST louis's GM
December 19, 200520 yr i predict that AJ will be next years version of scott podsednik. he got so much fanfare in the postseason i predict he will claim an all-star spot. posada is wearing down and ivan rodriguez without steroids just isnt as exciting as the pudge on sludge.
December 19, 200520 yr HELL YEAH!! AJ is the man. I am so glad we locked him up for a few more years. I would have never thought I'd like him so much a few years ago. AJ....YES! Edited December 19, 200520 yr by Sox Hustler
December 19, 200520 yr I thought AJ was the best FA signing of last year's offseason. There's no way the Sox would have won without him leading that pitching staff. And his role in building team unity was as important as his on-the-field contributions. Welcome back, AJ. Glad you are on our side!
December 19, 200520 yr A.J. has quickly become one of my favorites after I loathed him when he played for the Twins. This is great news. Captain Chaos Reigns! Edited December 19, 200520 yr by Greg The Bull Luzinski
December 19, 200520 yr Also a thanks goes to Hawk and Casey Harrelson in the original recruitment of AJ.
December 19, 200520 yr I heard 3 years but didn't hear the amount. I sort of figured he would sign an extension after all, he probably knows there is a good chance he could get another World Series win. Edited December 19, 200520 yr by whitesox1976
