December 22, 200520 yr I was on record saying I was against trading Marte - nothing against Makiowack (butchered spelling, I know), who is a very good player - I just hate giving up a young, hard-throwing lefty just because he had one sub-par year (ok, maybe one and a half). I think we have a good one in Cotts, but I'd feel much better if we had another lefty in there to replace Marte. The pickings are slim in free agency so I'm wondering if we have anyone at AA or AAA who might be a good candidate. I don't follow the minor leagues that closely so I'm wondering if anyone can tell me whether we have someone already in-house who could potentially fill the role.

No we will get another lefty via trade.

Damaso will be 31 by the time the season starts, so while he's not old he's certainly not young. He sucked last year, and started to decline in 04, I'm thrilled to have got rid of him. He's a headcase, his mechanics are f***ed, he's giving away his slider and he just can't throw strikes anymore. He's finished imo. Edited December 22, 200520 yr by Rowand44
December 22, 200520 yr Author QUOTE(quickman @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) No we will get another lefty via trade. That's just it. No one is trading a good lefty unless they get a lot in return.
December 22, 200520 yr I could care less if we get another lefty reliever. I'd rather just get quality arms for our bullpen, righty or lefty.

If its a hard-throwing lefty you want, there's always John Rocker.
December 22, 200520 yr It's sad cause I still believe Cotts can be a very good starter for years to come but we have so many starters that the bullpen will probably be his future job even though thats not bad at all. There are some lefties available but I don't mind someone in our system or just Cotts being the only lefty. I believe LAA didn't have one lefty in their bullpen throughout the season or the playoffs so that's how much they think about their bullpen when they have some great studs down there who are nasty against any lefty or righty.
December 22, 200520 yr ARNIE MUNOZ. Why not give him a shot. They gave Neal a shot and look how that has turned out.
December 22, 200520 yr ARNIE MUNOZ. Why not give him a shot. They gave Neal a shot and look how that has turned out. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yea,but i don't know if Munoz will turn out to be like Cotts.

QUOTE(Pierzynski 12 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) Yea,but i don't know if Munoz will turn out to be like Cotts. He won't. Asking for two left-handed starters to turn into two of the best setup men in baseball is redonkulous.

Asking for two left-handed starters to turn into two of the best setup men in baseball is redonkulous. never said he would but you never know. Chances are he makes it anyways. Ozzie loves the matchups. Would you of said Neal Cotts is going to be one of the best setup men in baseball before 2005? No you wouldn't.

Would you of said Neal Cotts is going to be one of the best setup men in baseball before 2005? No you wouldn't. Would I have said he'd be a good pitcher? Yes. He has more potential than Arnie ever had. I'd love for Muñoz to get a shot, but I fear we'd be in really bad shape if he starts the year in Chicago. Let's just hope we have a better option in place by then.

December 22, 200520 yr I personally think we only need 1 good lefty reliever. We have that in Cotts. If KW decides to keep Jon G. (doubtful) McCarthy will fill Vizcaino's void and IMO Baj will take Marte's spot. This team just might be set for the 2006 season. Bench: Widger, Borchard, Ozuna, Mackowiak, Gload Relievers: Jenks, Hermy, Politte, Cotts, Baj, McCarthy Rotation: Buerhle, Contreras, Garland, Garcia, Vazquez (assuming Jon G stays) Starting lineup: Pods, Uribe, Thome, Konerko, Dye, Gooch, AJ, Crede, Anderson Can we repeat with this roster: HELL YEAH! Like I said this is assuming we keep Jon G for the 2006 campaign. If we ship Jon G. than it will be for a reliever and prospects and McCarthy will fill his void in the rotation. Can we repeat w/o Jon G? I think so- McCarthy needs to show us that he is ready for a full season, if he does than playoffs here we come again!

That would be what Arnie Munoz would be like in 2006 most likely if he was in our bullpen. And don't forget, Cotts in the 1st month and a half, 3/4'ers of Soxtalk (you know who you are) wanted him gone. SAYONARA. But you know what happened. He made a simple adjustment, and the rest is history. But those 1/4 of the Soxtalk population who knew Cotts had that potential, stuck by him. Don't forget Munoz was a starter down at Charlotte in 2005, and did NOT have good numbers down there at all.
