Tony Dungy's son dies in Florida

Featured Replies

I woke up and heard this on ESPNradio. This is such a sad story. His son, 18, was pronounced dead earlier this morning. Tony went from being on top of the world last week to being absolutely crushed and at the bottom of the world. Needless to say he left the team and went to Florida.

This is a terrible occurance. My prayers go out to the Dungy family.

Prayers to the Dungy family...terrible news.

PFT says its a suicide....

DUNGY'S SON DEAD AT 18

Our hearts are shattered this morning for Colts coach Tony Dungy amid reports that his 18-year-old son James has died in Tampa.  620 WDAE is reporting that the apparent cause of death was suicide.

For anyone who has children, this is the worst nightmare imaginable, and our prayers are with Dungy and his family at a time when football and buying those last few Christmas gifts suddenly has taken on zero relevance.

James Dungy's body was found in his North Tampa apartment by his girlfriend this morning.

They're not that reliable though. Still, a horrible story.

Wow.....My bests to the Dungy family. :pray

Prayers and thoughts go out to the Dungy Family.

:pray

maybe one of the classiest coaches i've ever seen in the NFL... this truly is tragic....

god bless that family in their time of need

Thoughts go out to the Dungy's. Very sad story.

Yikes. Before the holidays? Oh no.

My prayers go out to the Dungy family. :pray

Football has no importance at a time like this. I hope for the best for the Dungy family.

Tony is as classy as they come. This is absulutely tragic. Hearts and thoughts are with the family.

Tony seems like one of humblest coaches in the game. Just feel so bad for the guy because he won't stop thinking about his job preventing him from being with his son and possibly preventing this.

A true class individual, man of faith, family man, not to mention a great football coach who brought Tampa out of the dark ages and was on his way to bringing the Colts a title with that rebuilt defense......just horrible to hear, regardless of the cause.

Condolances to the Dungy family and everybody involved.

My condolences go out to his entire family. :crying

just read on yahoo. very sad to see. thoughts and prayers go out to the dungy family...

People, give it a rest and have a little class. Wait for the results before bashing the family, mmmmkay?

who bashed the family? Jesus, I didnt say anything bad. Look at the signs, 18 years old, college kid, found dead in dorm/apt. Looks like drugs, that all I was saying. We show a picture of a guy who gets run over by a truck, and everyone says funny s***, but then when a famous person's son dies, anything other than prayers is classless. I was making an observation about what I thought the cause might be, relax.

Yeah, but Tony Dungy or his wife might read soxtalk and get angry. That guy that was run over by the truck probably didn't have any family that reads this website.

Tony Dungy is one of the finest men in sports and you just know his family mirrors his class and dignity. Horribly sad news

Idonno if that was meant to be in green or not but it was kind of dumb anyways. I feel bad for the Dungy family but in my opinion someone who commits suicide is pathetic and if they value their life that little dont deserve to live. Especially a kid that probably has had almost everything he ever wanted since Dungy has been raking in the money.

His son obviously had no class:

"Heroes: the D.C. Snipers, cause they let ya'll crackas kno tha ya'll aren't carzy race in the world"

That is off is website.

Not that class makes you deserve death any more/less.

It sucks for the family that their child passed away, and Tony is truly a class individual. But knowing nothing about the son other than what I read today, my ASSUMPTION is that the apple fell far from the tree.

It was extremely sarcastic and I agree with everything you just said. You know, besides the dumb part :P

And if this guy actually said that about the DC snipers, well good riddance.
