Reduce the month long slumps, that's basically it. If he can minimize the damage so to speak when he's slumping then he'll be fine.

Alot of interesting answers. I agree he tends to go into some horrable monthly slumps. I would like to see him reduce those. All players flucuate in their level at some point in the year, but to have fewer below-par dropoffs, and less severe ones is the keys, and more of those hot periods too.

 

I was just wondering if they take the fact he gets fewer games and fewer at bats into account when looking at his HRs and RBIs into account. Also I hear alot of negativity around him, that unless he drasticaly improves he will be gone after this year, and the fact he was signed to only a 1-year contract at not too high a salary(I thought it might be around 3 million)is a sign of that too I would have thought.

 

I am Canadian so I have no choice but to follow the Toronto Blue Jays alot, and we would have killed to have had a 3rd baseman that hit 22 homers in only 432 at bats, and along with Rodriguez and 1 or 2 others played the best defence of any 3rd baseman in the league, and who peaks for key games. That is why I am a bit surprised whenever I read critical articles of him coming from Chicago, but then again now that Chicago are the World Series Champions their standards probably go far up.

I don't know about this. I think this year's (deserved) whipping boy was Marte...and actually I can think of a couple of others whom fans lacerated on a regular basis. Remember, Billy Koch before that? Ouch! Let's not remember him.

It will be interesting to see if he stay healthy enough to start 140-145 games this year, something he didnt do last year. I do think Josh Fields will replace him as the starting 3rd baseman next year though. It will be interesting if they try to send Crede to the minors next year, taking the risk he wont clear waivers since he will be 28, try to trade him, dont take the salary arb. making him a free agent, or just use him as a utility infielder next year?

Lots of guys have their turns. Heck I remember when everyone hated Aaron Rowand and thought he should be traded for batting practice baseballs... Same with Jon Garland (aka Judy to the impatient) Boy would last year have not been nearly as much fun if we had dumped them for the nothing that some were saying we should.

I think Joe managed to get through the back problem well enough and keep playing (although August was pretty bad)...the main reason he missed time last year though was that freak injury when he was plunked on the hand, and you can'tr eally blame himf or that.

 

Joe Crede will not be going to the minors next year...and I for 1 will be surprised if Fields is ready to come up and start in 07, I think he may well need at least a decent portion of 07 in AAA before his swing and defense are where we'd like them.

In any case if Fields is ready to come up to the big leagues before the end of the 08 season, do you think they try to send Crede to the minors hoping he clears waivers, or they let him go off and be a free agent since they still own his rights until then?

Utility infielder? Crede is a third baseman, thats all. the guy is slow, he doesnt have the range to be a 2B or SS, and the Sox are set at 1st. Crede is probably out of options to the minors, so it isnt even an issue. He is either going to get traded, sign another deal, or leave via free agency. There will be no sending him down, converting him, none of that nonsense.

I bet he will not be signed either after 2006 or 2007, not sure which year.
