February 10, 200620 yr I live in Fort Myers, where the Twins have spring training. The local newspaper's website occasionally has a banner ad for Twins spring training tickets. The ad, displayed below notes that the Twins are back to back to back American League Central Division Champions. It does have the numbers 02 03 and 04 listed, but they are in about 6 point font, whereas the word Champions is in about 24 point font. Is this deceptive advertising or is it just me? Yes they won the division 3 times in a row, but they are not the reigning champions of the division. Do the Buffalo Bills market themselves as back to back to back to back AFC Champions in their ads? I doubt it. Am I overreacting on this? What's your opinion. Edited February 10, 200620 yr by canes98
February 10, 200620 yr Im sorry I couldnt see their ad, my view is being blocked by a worldseries championship trophy.

February 10, 200620 yr Who are the Twins? Wait, nevermind, I think I remember. Finished 3rd in the division last year. Were playing golf while we were winning a title.
February 10, 200620 yr i don't think it's that deceptive. that's all the twins have to hang their hats on. fortunately for us, we have 2005 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS to hang ours on... Edited February 10, 200620 yr by Goldmember
February 10, 200620 yr Why go with that crap when they can go and market superstars such as Rondell White??
February 10, 200620 yr QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) Im sorry I couldnt see their ad, my view is being blocked by a worldseries championship trophy. Exactly. Pretty dumb way to advertise the team.
February 10, 200620 yr I don't think its any big deal. Winning the division 3 years in a row is something to be proud of. Aren't the 6 World Championship trophies still all over Bulls stationary 8 years after their last title?
February 10, 200620 yr I always laugh when I watch my World Series DVD and they show the Astros unveiling their "Wild Card Champions" sign at the park. Did they start giving out trophies to WC winners?

February 10, 200620 yr I'm an ad creative, and I think you're overreacting. They won the division three times in a row. I really don't care how they advertise for their spring training games or season tickets this year, but they seem to be grasping for straws because they are using an overdue campaign, playing up on division titles the last of which is a year old. If this is what you call deceptive, there are lots of ads that you'd consider bald-faced lies. I look at it like so. Anyone who is in the market for ST tickets knows how they finished last year and how our White Sox did, but their successes are recent enough to still be marketable.
February 10, 200620 yr The Diamonbacks 2006 Spring Training logo says "2001 World Series Champions" on it. It's a common thing to do for teams going into Spring Training apparently. We just never had much to brag about before. Don't get too worked up, folks. Edited February 10, 200620 yr by whitesoxin'
February 10, 200620 yr QUOTE(Drew @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 05:50 PM) If this is what you call deceptive, there are lots of ads that you'd consider bald-faced lies. Let me rephrase... "If that is what you call deceptive, then ALL ads are bald-faced lies.
February 10, 200620 yr That doesn't anger me. Doesn't interest me, either. I'm just hoping for back-to-back 3rd place finishes for them.
February 10, 200620 yr I wonder if during Spring Training of 2008, the White Sox will rollout their ads touting our Back-Back-Back World Series titles?
February 11, 200620 yr QUOTE(canes98 @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) Am I overreacting on this? What's your opinion. Sounds similar to the Yankees advertising themselves as 26 time world champions or whatever.
February 11, 200620 yr QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 08:23 AM) The Twins? Is that the team that used to have AJ Pierzynski? Yeah, and now they have Joe Mauer. I'm ecstatic that the Sox have AJ, but the Twinks have a pretty damn good catcher too.
February 11, 200620 yr QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 09:43 AM) Yeah, and now they have Joe Mauer. I'm ecstatic that the Sox have AJ, but the Twinks have a pretty damn good catcher too. It was more of a reference to the Twins being an afterthought in the division these days than a team without a catcher.
February 12, 200620 yr QUOTE(Adam G @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 05:16 PM) It was more of a reference to the Twins being an afterthought in the division these days than a team without a catcher. I know what the reference was about, I just thought it was a poor reference since AJ was basically made expendable there because of a homegrown, younger, talented catcher. It's not like they lost him to free agency. They got Joe Nathan and Francisco Liriano for him.
February 12, 200620 yr This is more creative than..Minnesota Twins baseball, this is Twins territory.
