February 18, 200620 yr Sweden looks like a powerhouse against Latvia, the team USA tied. Tomorrow's game (Sunday) should be good. I hope DiPietro plays, and I hope he stands on his head.
February 18, 200620 yr Author We need to worry about a good Slovakia team first Entertaining first period. Glad Dipietro's in net
February 18, 200620 yr Author That was a hell of a game, but very disappointing. We still have the toughest 2 opponents to go, assuming Russia plays up to the level they are capable of playing. Ugh, just disappointed right now.
February 18, 200620 yr I really love watching the Fins play. Sorry to bring out a cliche here, but they really play some solid hockey. Just wish Tuomo was playing...
February 19, 200620 yr Wow, that goalie. Did I hear it right, that the Americans still have a solid shot at moving to the quarterfinals if this score does not change? I understand a win or a tie guarantees it.
February 19, 200620 yr QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 19, 2006 -> 12:08 PM) Wow, that goalie. Did I hear it right, that the Americans still have a solid shot at moving to the quarterfinals if this score does not change? I understand a win or a tie guarantees it. L 1-2. That defense/goalie is spectacular.
February 19, 200620 yr Author Yup Lundqvist is a stud. Now we have to hope Finland beats Canada. Because i don't want to open against Canada in the quarterfinals. And yeah we'll make the quarterfinals even if we lost and Latvia wins on Tuesday due to goal differential. Hooray for that... Ugh, this is frustrating and disappointing.
February 19, 200620 yr It was a good game all around for the most part. Even though Sweden out played the US and the saddest part was Sweden didn't even have to use Peter "The Great" to help them win....
February 19, 200620 yr Canada officially in deep s***, down 2-0 to the Fins with only about 5:30 left in the 3rd period.
February 19, 200620 yr Gotta hand it to Sweden and their goalie on this win over the USA. They played some awesome defense today.
February 20, 200620 yr What's the point of this 1st round of games? The U.S. and Canada both have 2 losses, and might end with 3 in 5 games, and are still moving on? Lameness.
February 20, 200620 yr QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 12:59 AM) What's the point of this 1st round of games? The U.S. and Canada both have 2 losses, and might end with 3 in 5 games, and are still moving on? Lameness. They eliminate 4 of the 12 teams and it seeds the medal round.
February 20, 200620 yr Author And, in my opinion, to get used to the time change and playing as a 'team'...or at least learning to play with the players on your team. Most of these guys had one practice before the games started.
February 20, 200620 yr So we get Russia on Tuesday? Let's hope Kovalchuk doesn't go nuts and have another 4 goal game.
February 20, 200620 yr If we have to play the Fins if the first round we pretty much have zero chance. They are much more skiled offensively than the American team. The Canadians have a ton of talent but my issue with that club is they seem to lack any real speed. Lots of big defenders and centers but no real speed to threaten a team on breakaways. I think that may be their demise. Finland made the Canadians look slow on the Ice yesterday.
