May 9, 200619 yr QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 9, 2006 -> 10:04 AM) You mean the 3 pages after his first post where people were asking for confirmation or a source? Come on. Circling for the kill, that really just makes me laugh. Its a message board. Are we worried someone got his feelings hurt? First the thing to do was discount this rumor, now the thing to do is climb up on the high horse. Hilarious. Actually I think the "thing to do" is learn the error of ones ways.

I addressed your ettiquite point, and after being asked repeatedly to provide a source, link, or some more info, the guy told us to get our apologies ready, and not to diss Haeger. As for the general atmosphere, people not believing a rumor? Oh god please make it stop. One can only hope that all rumors posted by a first time poster will be believed and held up as the gospel. I guess I should mysteriously infer that you have alterior motives with this: hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

May 9, 200619 yr Williams has to have made a decision by now whether or not Contrereas is pitching. If he's experiencing any degree of discomfort, don't chance it. Considering his value to our team, and the fact he recently signed a contract extension, risks associated with aggrivating his hip/back/whatever should oversee this upcoming series. Only under the condition of no pain would I consider starting Contreras tomorrow. I'd hate for any decision concerning Haegar's promotion to wait until later this evening. He should be in Chicago by 7 pm, resting in his hotel room preparing for tomorrow. Not leaving Charlotte at 7 pm and arriving in his hotel room around 1am.

I would figure they are in the process of bringing Haegar up to Chicago anyways right now, start or no start, just in case. I also am pretty sure, gut feeling, that KW and Ozzie have already made their decision not to start Jose tomorrow. Just seems like Ozzie's style and why risk anything to you best pitcher right now.
May 9, 200619 yr QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 8, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) bingo. And the approach was very troll-rumor like. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It was? I heard a rumor that Charlie Haeger has been summoned from Charlotte and will pitch in Chicago Wednesday night against the Angels. Can anybody confirm this? Hardly sounds like a troll-rumor like thing to me. He even asked for confirmation. Some people just can't admit to being wrong and treating others unfairly. Kudos to you kyyle. Good job. :rolly
May 10, 200619 yr Holy s***. I didn't even notice that this guy got flamed to no f***ing end. People here are quick to jump on others. Wowza. Initially, I just skipped to the last page (which was like 28 at the time) and missed the flamefest in which the flamers got pwned. Good call on this one wcw. I give you props.
May 10, 200619 yr Rob Neyer has an article about Haeger on ESPN. Unfortunately, it's an Insider article so I can't read it. This is just an FYI for anyone that has insider access.

The troll approach I was referring to was when at least 5 posters asked if he could provide a source, link, or anything. All I needed was "Hey, I cannot reveal my source. By the end of the day this will be confirmed". But no, I got "You are all dissing Heager" "Craft your apologies". So, take your kudos and shove it.:rolly Im done talking about this. The guy was right, all he had to do was say he couldnt reveal his source, not that we were "dissing" heager. And for the record, I was hating on wcw2323, or heager. Somebody close this topic please. May 10, 200619 yr QUOTE(YASNY @ May 9, 2006 -> 09:53 PM) Rob Neyer has an article about Haeger on ESPN. Unfortunately, it's an Insider article so I can't read it. This is just an FYI for anyone that has insider access. Here's my, uh, "summary" of the article. Hope it's ok... With the news that Charlie Haeger is probably going to start for the Parolees on Wednesday night in place of the injured Jose Contreras, I went scurrying to the record books. And what I discovered is that Haeger is apparently something of a prodigy. Here are the last four pitchers to debut in the majors as knuckleballers: Pitcher Debut Age Tim Wakefield 1992 25 Steve Sparks 1995 29 Dennis Springer 1995 30 Jared Fernandez 2001 29 Haeger is only 22, which is all the more amazing when you learn that when he was 19, he didn't play professional baseball. A 25th-round draft pick in 2001, Haeger "retired" after two seasons in the lowest minors -- and went to college (and played golf). But as the Baseball America 2006 Prospect Handbook notes, "Haeger didn't give up on baseball completely. He worked on a knuckleball that had been suggested by minor league pitching coach Chris Sinacori and decided to give pitching another shot. Haeger rejoined the Parolees as a knuckleball specialist in 2004 and broke through with 14 wins last year." Eight of those wins came in Single-A, six in Double-A. His ERAs were decent enough at both levels, but the most impressive number: four home runs allowed in 168 innings. And this season in Triple-A, Haeger hasn't allowed a homer in 40 innings while posting a 0.45 ERA. It's been a meteoric rise for any sort of pitcher, let alone a knuckleballer. To find another who reached the majors so early, you have to go back to 1970, when Charlie Hough debuted at 22 years, 8 months, and 7 seven days. Eddie Fisher, who enjoyed a long, solid career, debuted in 1959 when he was roughly 22 years and 10 months old. Haeger's slightly younger than both of them. If he does pitch for the Parolees on Wednesday, he'll be 22 years, 7 months, and 21 days old on the occasion of his major league debut. I suppose that some other knuckleball pitcher was younger & but I haven't been able to find him yet. So is Haeger the next Tim Wakefield, or perhaps even the next Phil Niekro? Probably not. The knuckleball is notoriously capricious, and I believe that it's harder than ever to thrive as a practitioner (because so many bad knuckleballs become good home runs, and also because umpires still don't call the high strike). Also, I'm a little gun-shy. A few years ago, I touted s***ty Sox knuckleballer Charlie Zink, but he hit a wall and is just now beginning to re-establish himself as a decent prospect. But Haeger apparently is the real thing. Baseball America rated him as the White Sox's No. 14 prospect last winter, and I'm sure they haven't rated a knuckleballer so high in quite some time. By the way, Jared Fernandez is back in the majors with the Brewers. But he's 34 and has never come close to establishing himself. R.A. Dickey, a recent convert, has a 7.62 ERA in the minors this season. Which means if Wakefield does have an identifiable successor as MLB's good knuckleballer, it has to be Haeger.

How did he get treated unfairly? Is this guy crying in the corner or something? Its a messageboard, people who make rumors their first posts get flamed. Sorry, it happens. He was right anyway, im sure thats satisfaction enough without having you carry his flag for him.
