Because he's not a .340 hitter. His average will probably fall to about .300 if he continues to swing for average and not power. If he decides to start swinging for the fences, it will drop further.

I just would have rather seen Gathright bat again, as he doesn't scare me at all. For some reason, I still get antsy that Cotts will have control issues when he comes in.

AJP won't hit .340 all year, as it's extremely hard for a catcher to maintain strength in his legs throughout the season. What Piazza did during the peak of his career was amazing.

Because he won't. Be realistic here, AJ has never hit .340 in any level of professional baseball, why would he now?
