Jermaine Dye

Featured Replies

Even in today's loss we got to witness greatness from a White Sox player.

You'd figure a guy with the resume of a Jermaine Dye would get a little more recognition for the season he's currently having. He's currently having the best season of any AL OF.

He's played in only 44 games this year, the team has played 54 games. That's right, he's missed 10 games this year which makes what he's doing that much more special.

In 144 ABs he's hit 16 HRs and driven in 41 runs and scoring 29 times.

He ranks amongst current AL OFs:

HR: T1st

RBI: 4th (behind Vlad (45), Wells (43) and Swisher (42))

His OPS currently stands at 1.074 which is by far the best amongst AL OF, 2nd best is Alex Rios at 1.041.

That OPS is also 2nd best in the AL behind Jim Thome who currently stands at 1.098.

His SLG% of .675 is the best in the AL, 2nd best is .661 by teammate Jim Thome.

The guy is playing above average defense with a cannon for an arm, holding runners to 1 base and eliminating the extra base.

Oh yeah, all this while making only $5 million this season or roughly 1/4 of Manny Ramirez' '06 salary.

It's a damn shame that the guy is currently 10th in voting for AL OF and is never talked about even by Sox fans.

10th in AS voting? Where Would He Play?

He does deserve a lot more respect. Once the media jumps on the Dye is overlooked, he'll jump up the voting charts.

Excellent post and I definitely agree. You forgot to talk about how reliable he is defensively. He WILL be an All-Star this year. World Series MVP...the guy can hit.

Dye might be our best all-around hitter.

Right now I would say he is.

No doubt about it. He should be starting in the ASG.

Way to edit that one in...

It was already there, I edited his OPS to 1.074 to reflect what it currently stands at. I'm pretty sure you're the only one to not see it in there to start.

Also, notice how the edit came before you even said anything.

I think you are right. I think he is the most underrated player in baseball.

It would be nice to reacquire another underrated player, Rowand.

How bout Garland and 2 s***ty prospects for Rowand.

Or McCarthy and those same 2 s***ty prospects for Rowand?

Why would we trade McCarthy? It doesn't make sense to do that, no matter how you look at it.

Also, Garland has a no trade clause this year, and its highly unlikely he'd accept a trade out of Chicago, and if he did, it would likely only be to Anaheim.

Aneheim? If there was a way to trade JG to Aneheim and get Scot Shields, I'd highly consider it.

I've long thought that Jason Bay is the most underrated player in baseball. He got some pub for the streak of six games with a home run, but mainly flies under the radar. I guess that's what playing for the Pirates will do to you. He has 17 HR's and an OPS over 1.000, yet isn't in the top 15 in OF all-star voting and trails such players as Juan Pierre and So Taguchi.

Do you ever hear Dye's name mentioned when people talk about the Mannys, Crawfords, Damons, Vlads, etc?

Dye is constantly overlooked by the national media and White Sox fans. People just take his numbers for granted. This thread is well-deserved.

Huge fan of Bay, he was also 21/22 last year in SB attempt which is just ridiculous especially for a guy like him.

where the hell have you been? when has any Sox player ever gotten the attention they deserved? to tell you the truth, i kinda like it that way because its all ive ever known. if this is a story over whose been overlooked and who hasent, think of the bigger picture. this team and last years team was completly overshadowed in the media. from ESPN to local evening news, there was always another team getting the glory . as far as i can remeber, the scrubs have always gotten more attention than our southsiders. why? perhaps we will never know, all i know is that im a tried and true sox fan and have never seen our team or players be the continued center of attention. i still hold firm to my previous statement.

I just felt this thread needed to be pinned. The guy deserves all the reocgnition and more.

we should pin a "get jermaine dye in the allstar game" thread . and leave it up there until voting ends :)

Just saying.. if we could get pods in, Im sure we could get dye in if White Sox nation gave an effort. IUt would be our first positional starter in almost a decade.

dont get me wrong, JD DOES deserve to be in the all star game and more. im all for posting the "get JD into the allstar game" thread.
