White Sox inspiration yesterday?

Featured Replies

I know anyone who watched yesterday's game on TV saw Victor Martinez's lengthy celebration after both of his HRs yesterday (or if you listened you heard Farmio talking about throwing at people for stuff like that), out of curiousity, does anyone think that might have fired up the Sox enough to spark the rally to win it in the 11th?

Perhaps. Nobody likes to be taunted and, personally, I point to the Kansas City games early on in our season when we were, what, 1-4, and the KC fans began chanting "Overrated" at our players (we beat them the next day) and then started our hot April.

I just think that this is a team that has a competitive fire all around, from every player, and you can see it in all of their faces.

Except Garland. :P

I thought, however, that Martinez was very much obnoxious. He was doing some weird fist rubbing by himself in the dugout -- sort of like a mixture of him making a jagoff symbol and "The Touch of Death" from the Simpsons at the same time, but with both hands hitting.

I heard Farmer squawking about it at length ... personally I believe the White Sox players are professionals and Martinez's actions were duly noted. I didn't see the HR or his supposed antics, but per Farmer there was a long stare into the White Sox dugout, among other histrionics.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Freddy Garcia dust off Martinez tonite, or at some point in the next matchup.

That said, yes, Martinez's actions may have pumped up the White Sox. I did see the replay of their victory celebration which was to be expected after a long hard fought game, but they may have celebrated with a bit more gusto in light of Martinez's HR act.

The White Sox hit a lot of HR's and for the most part they are pretty good about just putting their head down and running around the bases. I think they get a little miffed when the opposition shows them up after a HR.

Yeah, Freddy's pretty good about standing up for his teammates.

I personally don't think his on field celebration was much. A lot of players do that thing when the cross home plate. He pointed at someone, but that easily could have been a friend or family member. I didn't see what he did in the dugout, but I have no problem with players celebrating in the dugout. White Sox players celebrate in the dugout. Fans asked them to come out and tip their caps. I think Farmio made a bigger deal out of this than what it was.

I dunno, there was a LOT of Victor Martinez self-love going on in that dugout.

I would suspect that it got pointed out on the Sox bench later, but I don't think it was the inspiration for the comeback.

I think the inspiration for the comeback was the plate full of meatballs Fat Bob lobbed at the plate in the bottom of the 11th.

i didn't see the celebration, but was listening to the game ont he radio, and farmer was flipping out about it.

If that was indeed the case then it was REALLY nice to be able to make Victor Martinez and his Injuns eat some s***. Lets sweep the bastards and make it REALLY hurt.

I was at that game and I didn't hear any "overrated" chants.

He better be pumped about his homeruns - he's thrown out like 5 runners this year in 50 tries.

He's talking about an early april series against KC

I hope Martinez is ready for a 79 mph Freddy Garcia fastball right in the back.

I was there in the 3rd row, and saw nothing from Martinez other than the joy you'd expect from a guy that hit a huge home run in the 11th. I think the reason we came back is this team is finally growing some balls and showing some huge heart, nothing to do with V Mart.

IMO the best answer to any celebrations by the other team is just to beat them and win the game.

Farmer gets his blood pressure up about all kinds of stuff that he thinks merits brushback or knockdown pitches, but he also says yeah, he played the game 30 years ago and times were different then. I do like to hear him and Singleton discuss that stuff, though -- funny.

Yeah, well, perhaps he was there at that game, and didn't hear them, but I heard about them on TV and also read about them in the paper.

I didn't hear Farmer say anything when Ozuna flicked his bat and raised his arms in victory on the single that almost scored Mack.
