See, you missed 1 key detail. Claussen's ERA coming into this game was 5.26 or so. The usual conversion I do is add .9 to an ERA to guess how the average pitcher would do if they switched leagues. In other words, Claussen's pitched roughly as well as Jon Garland.

I knew what his era was. But when you've got 3 of your regulars scuffling, the pitcher hitting, and your best hitter out, that's usually the perfect medicine for a struggling pitcher. I'm more than glad Crede has made me look like a fool, though.
