Sox' 2006 Victory Haikus

Featured Replies

Last season in May, someone started a Sox Haikus thread on the main Sox site. I wrote a bunch of them about us winning the World Series. Yesterday, in response to Beck 72's thread about hope for this season, I penned the following new ones. I decided they deserved their own thread since no one responded in kind on that thread. Feel free to add your own. Remember, Haikus follow the 5-7-5 syllable format. (P.S. I stand corrected on the form by Misplaced Sox. Thanks for the information!)

*****************

We are just lulling

Other teams into thinking

They can beat the Sox

In fact, the White Sox

Are still baseball's best team

And we will prove it

Have no fear Sox fans

Would you swap our warriors

For another team?

Winning July games

Is not essential prelude

To October wins

Pitching and defense

Will reemerge and become

Our team theme again

Until it comes back

Power bats will carry us

Into the playoffs

Once in, we won't care

If we have the Wild Card slot

Or win the Central

No team can stop us

From repeating as World Champs

We will find a way

Ya gotta believe

In this solid White Sox team

To go all the way!

Back-to-back titles

Flying over the South Side

It's gonna be sweet.

Its all good and all but the Haiku is a different technique. I know your having fun and it is amusing but Im just being technical here. What you have provided is a "Hokku" a starting chain. Normally a Haiku is composed a single thought between two distances and it stops..... it also hints or winks at the season in which it was written as in "fresh" for spring..... "warm, moist" summer..... "dry, leave" fall and "sleep, alone" winter.....

:chair Anyways I it is a nice idea :P

When the Sox come back

And start to turn things around

Many here eat crow

:P :D

Not Sox related, but I wrote this a while back. It's probably the greatest haiku ever written.

A haiku is a

poem with seven sylla

bles in the middle

When at Cell Field

Action right in front of me

Blonde Chevy Pride girl

::snap snap snap snap

These threads are getting wierder by the day.

Nothing screams to me more for american baseball, than Japanese poetry.

C'mon. Haven't got the creativity to pen a few lines to the success of your favorite team?

I'm actually pretty disappointed that so few Sox talk posters seem to be able to conjure up odes to the success of the Sox.

Rooney used to say

And thats a White Sox winner

Let's hear it again

People want him back

Well guess what you Rowand fans

He's not coming back

Anderson's to stay

He is twice the defender

Bat's coming around

Garcia is not good

He is the one that should go

Your velocity sucks

Bring me the Flash

Bring in Duaner Sanchez

McCarthy will start

Pods is my hero

Steals like a Detroit felon

Goes home to Dergan

I can honestly say the last possible thing I ever thought I would see from sox fans is "Please recite your victory haiku". Its almost creepy.

Goat cheese pizza sucks

Bottled water is lamer

Chevy can bite me

Rally Crede Rules

He brought us a World Series

You all should bow down

Detroit will soon fade

Where's the unemployment line

We build crappy cars

Rhyming's over-rated

That's why I never do it

It sounds tired and dated

Well, that sucked, the first line is 6 syllables.

What if the second line rhymes too? I wrote this one last year:

Great Ozzie man say

Pitching and defense the way

To World Series play!

It still applies.

Just Win

Calls nothing but bad games

Blanco should come here

BTW LMB, haikus do not have rhymes. I just wiki'd it.

We all make mistakes

Next time I'll do more research

Will you forgive me?

Doesn't even look like any kind of writing style without the rhyme.
