Vince Young leaving and being a home game, and Tech actually having a good defense now gives me alot of hope. OU losing Bomar and not having a legitimate back-up really gives me hope there. This COULD be the best offense that Tech has ever had, as both Graham Harrell and Chris Todd are the most talented options Tech has had at QB yet, along with 3 very good wide receivers and some nice athletic, but young options to "run" the ball.

Losing at ISU wouldn't be very shocking to me. ISU was 3 OT losses last year from a very good year as you know. I think TTU will be REALLY up for the UT and OU games, and might have a letdown against a very good ISU team as well as TCU's different defensive scheme.

TTU will kill ISU if the defense hasn't stepped up.

How are Tech's cornerbacks? Or defense for that matter?

Can't wait 'til the 3-0 start gets Champaign a buzz in time for when Iowa gets to town. Then, carrying momentum, the Illini steamroll the number 17 Squawks.

Yeah, I should keep dreaming.

Tech's defense should be their best yet, bettering their 30th ranked defense of last year. I think what most people don't realize is that even though Tech had a creampuff non-conference schedule, Tech's defense didn't have any dropoff in Big 12 play, and put up some very solid numbers. The main reason for the improvement is that the guys have been playing together for 2-3 years now, after being so young on defense 3 years ago.

The DT's are both seniors and are talented and will be the most important positions on the squad, the DE's are unheralded but can stuff the run pretty well. LB's have some seniority on the squad as well and are pretty talented. Blake Collier and Franklin Mitchem, both 4 star freshmen LB's should provide some immediate help, especially Collier with his 4.4 speed. Keyunta Dawson, a pre-season Ted Hendricks DE of year candidate, is the big key along with the two senior DT's. If they can stuff the run against Adrian Peterson, Jamal Charles, etc, then Tech could have another very good season with double digit wins.

Antonio Huffman leads the CB's as an upperclassmen, he was second on the team last year with 4 pass break-ups and an INT, Anthony Hines should step in at safety for the two departed safety seniors, the other cornerback and safety positions are still up for battle. Tech should have their most athletic defense yet, which isn't saying much outside of last year.

Speaking of college football, are we going to do another pick em group this year?

This year's NIU team might be the best one yet, including 2003. Unfortunately, the only 2 games we'll be underdogs in are at Iowa and OSU, neither of which I could see us winning. However, we SHOULD beat everybody else and head to Detroit for the MACC at 10-2.

Yes, I will be running one. I have to defend my back-to-back titles. :D

There was also a football recruit from Naperville Central named John Porn last year who went to Dayton.

Funny story form about 2 years ago. There were players on the team named Porn, Small, and Weiner. So this one kid makes a sign...

Am I the only one that thinks WVU should be top 5?

No

lol@ all the people still believing the Urban Meyer hype

I will take it even a step further. I have WV winning it all this year, and lots of couches will be burned. Combining their schedule, rushing ability, and defense, leads to atleast an 11-1 regular season, with the possible loss being at Louisville, which will be one of the best games of the year.

Anybody with a brain should, considering their schedule, returning talent, and what they did winning what was basically a road game vs. Georgia in their BCS game last year.

I'll be going to my first non Northwestern football games this season. Even though I hate the Illini, I already got tix for Illinois-Iowa and hopefully for Illinois-OSU....ahem Steve.

lol, why are you coming to the 2 games we're going to lose by 100 points combined?

Anyways, just remind me in a week or two and i'll pick you up those tix.

Anyways, I'll take a 4 win season from the Illini, all I want to see is progress, and for us to be competitive in these games.

So excited for Isiah Williams it's not even funny.

Stay in Carbondale and watch the Dawgs run wild over the Gateway than lose in the first round of the playoffs.

Wow....turns out the Bomar story broke on a Texas A&M fansite......in late JANUARY:

First of all, that guy has bragging rights for life on that site. Second, to me that's proof that Stoops knew exactly what was going on (but then again, of course he did, that post wasn't needed to prove it).

damn!

Hey Zen, are you going to the season opener?

GO BUCKS!! I am so happy football season is about ready to kickoff. I love baseball and all, but there is nothing better than Saturdays during the fall.

Should be a great season. I will be attending OSU vs Texas, OSU vs PSU, OSU vs. NW, OSU vs Illini.

Troy Smith for Heisman!!

I'll be at that opener in the NIU section (I'm a student). Obviously I don't expect a win or anything, but if we can just give you an honestly decent game, I'd be ecstatic about the rest of this season. The one thing I will say is you lost 9 defensive starters and it's your first game, so Wolfe and our offensive machine should at least make a good showing on national television, but good Lord your offense is going to destroy our defense.
