What's up with Paulie?

Featured Replies

Every year before this year, he always acted like the team captian, and lead the team. But when he is finally the team captian, he doesn't act like it. There should have been a team meeting by now. And calling of the team meeting is the team captains job.

And what is with his GIDP's? Last year he had like 8 total GIDP's, this year he has over 20 GIDP's. And he has been a big choker and rally killer. Last year he was much better, even though his numbers really don't show it.

I am very disappointed in Paulie, and would have expected better from Paulie.

Konerko's splits since the ASB FWIW;

That really doesn't mean anything. And I said lately, not from 3 months ago and plus.

Excuse me, I did not say lately, but I meant to.

How many double plays in the last month?

My sarcastic reaction to the end of the game: "Damn, now I won't get to see how Paulie manages to hit into a dp with 2 outs."

My real reaction to this game: "Fish....someone."

I don't know who to blame, I can't really blame anyone. I just want to. Paulie sucked eggs today, yeah, but this slide is not his fault. But what an all-around b****.

What an awful game. Brutal.

Edit: Game was a b****, not PK. Just to be clear.

Not that I am defending him because he has GIDP a lot this season and lately, but with Thome infront of him it was expected that would go up this year.

Today though he just killed us.

Who is Konerko going down on off the field?

This thread only delivered half of what it promised.

How in the hell do you know what goes on behind closed doors? How do you know they haven't called a meeting? How do you know PK's not throwing chairs in the locker room? :bang

So, uh, in that case, I for one think this is one thread that is just fine without pics.

Because if there was something, the media would have told us about it. There is always a leak, and the media finds out about this stuff.

Like someone on the bears leaked info to the media about how Cedric Benson left early at the preseason game and didn't show up for the mandatory meeting or something, so he was fined or something like that.

Do you read People and watch Entertainment Weekly?

fathom you know as well as i do that the GIDP is not something new for konerko....its plagued him his whole career....as for the original poster in this thread...konerko isnt the one to blame...in fact id like to praise konerko for his remarkable consistency this year, konerko is not the one to blame...if you are gonna get on players...get on uribe podsednik and pierzynski

Because with the amount of folks here that know someone who works with/for the Sox, we would have heard about it.

There aint s*** going on in that locker room right now but cards and play station contests.

I guess moving Konerko behind all of the higher OBP guys wasn't so bright afterall was it?

I only have one issue with Paulie this year... he appears to not run out ground balls. Yeah, I know he is the slowest guy on the team. But its more than that. The double play he grounded into last night, would have scored a run if he had beat it out, and frankly he didn't look like he was running too hard. That just bothers me, especially for a team captain, and especially when I see Thome (who is also slow) running out every ground ball like he does.

That irritated me.

The White Sox as a team have been notorious for not running out grounders. I remember reading an SI article in 2004 when they were talking to a scout. He said they couldn't get the White Sox players times down to first because no one ran balls out. I also recall many moons ago, Hawk actually calling out Ozzie one game, albeit it very quietly, for not running a ball out. Hawk just said he hated when Ozzie did that. Thome runs them out, although now he has to take it easy with his hammy, Mackowiak goes down the line as hard as anyone in baseball, other than that, its pretty much a team full of courtesy joggers.

Yup. The only guys I see really hustle it down the line are Thome, Pablo, Mack, Anderson, Gload and Iguchi. Note that 3 of those are bench guys.

But I think that was different last year. There was more hustle on that 2005 team, even from the same players. Ozzie benched a couple different guys mid-game last season for not running out grounders. Maybe he needed to do some of that this year.

That's right, Pablo runs everything out as well. Gload and BA and Iguchi run sometimes, but I see them loafing from time to time.
