November 4, 200619 yr Borat is on one third of the screens as other movies released yesterday... but so far - its number 1 at the box office. Friday BO Estimates Borat (837 screens) - 9.05 mil Santa Clause III (3458 screens) 5.20 mil Saw III (3167) 5.20 mil Flushed Away (3707) 4.62 mil
November 4, 200619 yr On rottentomatoes.com, 120 positive reviews vs 5 negative reviews. Higher rating than Departed. Why did Fox choose to limit the screens so much on opening weekend?
November 4, 200619 yr Not bad for a guy who came to America with only his "suitcase, clothing and a jar of Gypsy tears to protect me from AIDS."
November 4, 200619 yr QUOTE(3E8 @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) On rottentomatoes.com, 120 positive reviews vs 5 negative reviews. Higher rating than Departed. Why did Fox choose to limit the screens so much on opening weekend? From what I read, they weren't confident about positive Internet buzz. I personally don't see the appeal of Borat (I've seen a ton of stuff on the Web and I haven't laughed yet), but it's doing very well.
November 4, 200619 yr I was going to see it last night but it's not playing anywhere in the DeKalb area
November 4, 200619 yr Author After Snakes on a Plane only got 15 mil its opening weekend, I think they were afraid the internet was an empty echo chamber.
November 4, 200619 yr i think there is a large diff b/w SOAP and borat, borat stemmed from da Ali G show, which has grown tremendously thanks to the internet, so the audience was being met up perfectly with the film release.
November 5, 200619 yr This would be one of the funniest movies ever made to somebody that hasnt watched much of the ali g show, but for those who have seen some much of Borat on the internet and HBO ,there is nothing new in this movie that is going to have you in stitches.I knew 75% of the movie from what i seen on clips. But i still laughed because the man is a genious.
November 5, 200619 yr QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 03:13 PM) After Snakes on a Plane only got 15 mil its opening weekend, I think they were afraid the internet was an empty echo chamber. Also, IIRC, wasn't most of the hype for SOAP months before it was released? All the hype I have been hearing about Borat started a lot closer to its release.

I love Borat and I will see this film on Friday.
November 5, 200619 yr Author QUOTE(farmteam @ Nov 5, 2006 -> 11:46 AM) Also, IIRC, wasn't most of the hype for SOAP months before it was released? All the hype I have been hearing about Borat started a lot closer to its release. I've been all about Borat since June. He's been doing press for it all summer and fall.
November 5, 200619 yr QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 5, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) I've been all about Borat since June. He's been doing press for it all summer and fall. A lot of the hype has come after the rave reviews critics have given it...
November 5, 200619 yr At a gun store he asks the owner for the best gun for killing Jews and is told that a 9mm or a 45 will do just fine. He settles for a live bear. Mannn.. I'm not sure whether to be shocked or laugh out loud.
November 5, 200619 yr QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 5, 2006 -> 04:38 PM) 26.4 million this weekend. Over 30 grand per theater average. Damn. That's a lot of Yakov Smirnoff fans right there....
November 5, 200619 yr My hype came from the early Ali G show days, just browsing an HBO free preview bored one Sunday night, and laughed my ass off. Heard about the movie a while ago and it was definately worth the wait! Yes, he is advertising a lot, a little surprised about all the hype (but it delivers with the movie, so the reviews show that), but it's not like you had to watch the episodes to get it. I want to see it again. Here's some epsidoe flashbacks to wet your appetite
November 6, 200619 yr favorite part..... Driving Instructor: In America, a woman can choose who she has sex with. Borat Sagdiyev: WHAAAAAAT? had me dying for a good few
November 6, 200619 yr Will see this on my day off tomorrow or Friday. Does it have the "throw the Jews down the well?" bit? That is easily one of the top 10 funniest things I have ever seen.
November 7, 200619 yr I saw this film on friday. It had some pretty funny moments - others not so funny. Worthwhile.. but no classic...
November 7, 200619 yr SBC is a f***ing genius. How he stayed in character through all that...absolutely brilliant. That whole high society dinner was hysterical. I could not stop laughing throughout that film.
November 7, 200619 yr Pretty quality film. I've been huge into Cohen for awhile now and I was a little worried that this movie would suck after the suckfest that was Da Ali G movie. This was a hell of a lot better. Still, Borat and all the characters are at their best when in interview mode. There is also going to be a Bruno movie for those interested, for which filming is beginnign shortly. http://www.lse.co.uk/ShowbizNews.asp?Code=...ens_bruno_movie
November 9, 200619 yr I've never felt so violated as I watched two naked pale hairy guys do what they did.... I've never laughed so much either.
