Egbert sounds like a similar pitcher to Webb from what I have read... hope he can pitch like him when he makes the bigs.

They both keep the ball on the ground, but Webb does it so much better than anyone else. Webb's G/F was 3x greater than Egbert's G/F last season.

at the majors. essentiall the same age as Eggy (didn't look it up, could be wrong there) with a longer history of missing bats.

Haeger hasn't exactly been lights out this year in Charlotte. Seems like he's been having a bit of trouble getting command of his knuckler.

And bringing in such a good defensive second baseman in Orlando Hudson was really a big reason in Webb's stellar season last year.

Shows how important it is to have a good defense if you have a lot of groundball pitchers, which I think is the Sox's plan for most of the young pitching they're developing. Guys like Egbert sort of fit that mould anyway.

Jason -- I was surprised to see Cunningham start the year at Winston Salem, as normally the Sox (seem) to like to push their OFers in the minors (cases in point: Jumping Chris Young straight from Kanny to B-Ham, the pushing of Sweeney despite his lack of dominance at one level, and even starting Fields at Charlotte last year after a less than stellar campaign at Birmy).

Anyways -- how long do you think he has until he's wearing a Barons jersey? Month-and-a-half?

Barring some sort of disaster he'll be in Bham by the ASB, if not sooner. However, with the Sox depth of outfielders (Anderson, Sweeney, Fields and I guess Owens deserves to be mentioned too just because Ozzie is a fan of his speed and I'll admit he's really made some strides with his swing) there really is no reason to rush Cunningham and I think thats why the Sox are giving him more time in Winston Salem as opposed to having him open the year in Bham.

Note: Until Crede is moved I will mention Fields as both an outfielder and infielder because he's completely capable of being an average to above avg left fielder (defensively speaking).

Also it's probably good for Cunningham to build up some momentum, get his confidence up so he earns that promotion to B-Ham, instead of him starting the season there and possibly not hitting the ball as well as he is now due to the higher level and tougher ballpark to hit in.

I don't think he'll be down in W-S for too long either though.

Yeah Egbert is definitely on a more conservative track than most college pitchers but Webb is still 4 years his senior.

whats the outlook for Cunningham? Is he a future big league lead off man?

Look at Egbert's numbers this year and try not to get encouraged....

2-1, 1.80

25 IP, 13 H, 5 R, 0 HR, 4 BB, 26 K

Speaking of Cunningham, he turned 21 today. Both he and Micah should be moving up to Birmingham before the ASB I would guess.

It's AA and BMac.

i'm gonna guess he means BHam?

I guess I should have been more specific. BMac put up similar numbers for the Barons and look where he is.
