You do realize that for a span of 40+ innings from late August last year until early May of this season, you'd struggle to find a more effective reliever than Aardsma...

I'm struggling to figure out how you don't see any value in Aardsma? He has had a bad stretch, but, he is definately a pitcher who has obvious talent and value.

If Vasquez comes up and walks the first guy you will be calling for KW's head for not acquiring Rocky Cherry in the deal. Go read Mike Downey's article this morning in the Trib.

So let me get this straight. Aardsma has basically been stellar from day one, and he has one bad weekend against the Cubs and he's total garbage. Hmmm.

 

Add this to the series of knee-jerk posts you made in pale hose talk over the weekend and I can only come to one conclusion: You put way too much stock into the crosstown series.

Seems like an overreaction by the Cubs. First 11 starts he was unscored upon. A couple of rough appearances and they send him down. Yikes.

Let me also add that Jermaine Dye has been as good or better than Magglio Ordonez from 2005 to the present at less than 1/2 the salary.

 

Dye - .286 / .345 (ish) / .556 with 85 HR, 231 RBI and 195 R ($16 million salary)

 

Ordonez - .306 / .366 (ish) / .493 with 42 HR, 190 RBI and 157 R ($39 million salary)

 

Sure, Maggs was hurt much of '05...but that's part of the issue. He is more injury prone now.

 

Not to mention that Dye plays plus D in RF.

 

I'll trade the 20 points of OBP (artificially depressed by Jermaine's cold start) for 60 points of slugging, even if the Cell is more hitter friendly, for $23 million less. Face facts, Jermaine Dye is one of the best free agent signings the Sox have EVER made.

 

(Probably best signings - (1) Carlton Fisk; (2) Jermaine Dye; (3) Tom Seaver)

I think this is a great post besides for one statement you make. Dye's first two years with this organization are as memorable as anyone has ever had.

Compared to Ordonez, Dye in 05 was significantly better defensively. He has taken steps backwards towards Ordonez territory the past 2 years with age, but there's no denying in my book that he came in as a good defensive upgrade from Ordonez.

I dont agree at all, maybe that of Ordonez post injury, but Dye has been slow out there in RF every year he has been with the whitesox. Ordonez was a better fielder for us than most seem to give him credit for. Dye does seem to catch any ball in his area but the problem is his area is smaller than most RF's.

Dye's won a Gold Glove out there. He knows what he's doing. He's lost speed and looks terrible running nowadays but he's still a better fielder than Maggs

When did I say I rather have Ordonez? But if you want to play that way which one is batting .229 and which one is batting .361. Dye was at one time a far superior OF than Ordonez ever was. But now, he is no better than what Magglio was pre-injury. Infact id say he is worse because Maggz while he did slide to balls he should of been able to run out Dye doesn't make it to those balls. I dont know how Magglio is now in the field since his injury but i bet his mobility is now similar to that of Dye.

Hey guys, am I still wrong about AAArdsma? Cheat, is he still one of the best relief pitches since the 2nd half of last year? I forget who said this, but is it still a small sample size in his career? No, he sucks and this trade was AAA crap for AAA crap, unless Vazquez ends up being good.
