June 7, 200718 yr "I am glad to be a part of the White Sox family," said Poreda, who was teammates at San Francisco with Stefan Gartrell, Chicago's 31st-round selection in 2006. "I am grateful for the opportunity and can't wait to get my professional career started."
June 7, 200718 yr QUOTE(R.J. @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 06:54 PM) is Kyle Russel off the board? I don't think so.
June 7, 200718 yr QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 06:36 PM) Thank you, FutureSox. I wrote the Poreda summary and Heads is forced to actually do stuff now. We'll have more info later, don't you worry. I think our draft coverage is our best feature, maybe that's just me. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 06:39 PM) It may just be me, but BasseballChannels host sounds like Zach Braff. Casey Stern? He was on Dream Job. I think his voice is higher pitched than Braff. Also, I just realized a bit ago that Arrieta out of TCU, that a lot of pubs had in the first round. Josh- MacFarland is a Mizzou signee, that's higher than he was supposed to go. Hopefully he stays, man this is probably the best recruiting class in school history.
June 7, 200718 yr QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 06:34 PM) Round 3, Pick 119 RHP John Ely, Miami (OH) Ely, the third straight pitcher picked by the Sox, is more like former Sox first rounders Lance Broadway and Kyle McCulloch. Known as a "solid pitcher" who is a fierce competitor, Ely throws a fastball around 92 mph, as well as a changeup and a curve. The fastball and the changeup are his best pitches, while his curve is still developing. Ely also owns a somewhat violent throwing motion that makes him harder to hit. The phrase "violent throwing motion" is somewhat concerning. I know virtually nothing about this guy, but poor mechanics (which I assume is implied by the throwing motion comment) tends to preclude injuries/arm troubles.
June 7, 200718 yr Author I think they'll probably concentrate on positional players now. If not Middlebrooks, I'll throw out Garrett Nash or Warren McFadden
June 7, 200718 yr QUOTE(R.J. @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 11:54 PM) is Kyle Russel off the board? No....he's got some big time power.

I know virtually nothing about this guy, but poor mechanics (which I assume is implied by the throwing motion comment) tends to preclude injuries/arm troubles. go to mlb.com s thang and click the video link. you can watch his motion and then end of his delivery is bizarre. you get a good idea from the profile view of it

He's had no arm problems that I've known about.

June 7, 200718 yr Author If they're still interested in pitchers, there's always Tanner Robbles or Julian Sampson. Although both could probably be taken in the later rounds.
June 7, 200718 yr hey i figure middlebrooks makes sense cuz you can make him what you want - pitcher/infielder - gives you flexibility. lol Russel gone
June 8, 200718 yr i think middlebrooks would be a great pick, if he can't cut it as a MI, he can move to the mound.
