2007 Post ASB White Sox Catch-All Thread

Featured Replies

Darin Erstad (ankle) developed a stiff neck and missed the past two games while rehabbing at Triple-A Charlotte.

"The ankle, he actually started to run well," general manager Ken Williams said. "Without the neck issue, he probably would be back by now." He's still targeting an early August return to the DL

Fixed.

The cubs are not the old whitesox. They have no pitching outside of one pitcher. Think more of the 2004 whitesox. They wont advance too far in the playoffs. So dont get them in a bunch over this.

Zambrano has the 4th best ERA of CHC SP.

Floyd's picture is up there with the worse of all time. Cantu, Astacio, etc.

AJ's last year was pretty bad with the mullet sticking out.

All's well with Contreras

"I was pretty excited," Guillen said of the meeting. "I was worried about [Contreras'] back, but he said he was fine. For me, the best thing is that mentally and physically he's fine."

We'll find out when he pitches next time," Guillen said, then added with a laugh, "If he pitches next time and does the same stuff, then he was lying to me."

We have to start to use medical professionals and machines, instead of asking our players for their opinions on their health. Based on this, I expect a fastball averaging 94 mph next time out, and his splitter to be filthy. But you know he will go back to being Byung Yung Contreras the drop down specialist.

Hopefully Count can absolutely own the Jays tomorrow and some team will be willing to offer something decent for him.

ummmmm check you facts

Orioles claimed catcher Gustavo Molina off waivers from the White Sox.

Molina, 25, opened the year as Toby Hall's replacement in Chicago and went 1-for-18 while backing up A.J. Pierzynski. He was hitting .209/.265/.281 in 139 at-bats for Triple-A Charlotte. He's a quality defender, but he'd make Orioles fans yearn for Paul Bako if he took over as the team's No. 2 catcher next year. He'll be assigned to Triple-A Norfolk.

Any updates on Crede? is he training/rehabbing in Arizona?

I think this was our most recent update.

I think this was our most recent update.

Yea since then all we've had is this this appearance in Palehose 7.

Where is today's game thread?

what's the purpose of even watching white sox games anymore and following them? There is only like 5 players in the minors worth keeping tabs on, and only 3 in the majors: Richar, Fields, and Danks.

We are so screwed for the future, it isn't even laughable.

I don't see one reason why it would be good if we won anymore games this season.

1.) We have 3 young players on the whole team right now worth a damn, so it's not like winning will show that much progress with those players like it would in Colorado or Florida.

2.) Our farm system is just plain out pitiful. We need the no. 1 pick to hopefully get a stud prospect.

Actually, the org. would likely f*** up the draft so it kinda doesn't matter, I guess.

notes:

Spraying to all fields: Darin Erstad referred to his left ankle as a little "cranky" in getting going, but as far as baseball activity, he's at full speed and ready for action. The veteran also fully understands his new role, getting a chance to play all over the outfield, as well as some games at first base.

"That's fine," Erstad said. "Jerry [Owens] is at a point in his career where he needs to play in the big leagues. He's proven what he needs to prove at Triple-A, and he's doing a great job. I was in that same situation.

"He's a great guy and he does everything the right way. I couldn't be happier for him."

Erstad also had to endure a two-day bout with a stiff neck before making his return to the White Sox. As for how his current job title will affect his employment status for 2008, with the team holding a $3.5 million option, Erstad refuses to think that far ahead.

"Next year is so far off the radar," Erstad said. "I'm just trying to have these two months here and just stay healthy for two months and prove I'm healthy going into the offseason. I don't have to worry about surgeries or stuff like that.

"I'm trying to build momentum going into next year. Whatever facet Ozzie tries to use me, I'm all for it."

Better than ever? Mike MacDougal was called back from his Minor League rehab stint on Wednesday and was to be reinstated after the Wednesday's game. Charlie Haeger or Ehren Wasserman stand as the primary options to be reassigned to Triple-A Charlotte, although Wasserman has been very effective of late against right-handed hitters.

During Sunday's appearance with the Knights, MacDougal struck out five over two scoreless innings. MacDougal has been on the disabled list since July 6 with right shoulder inflammation but said Wednesday he feels pain-free for the first time since early on in the 2007 season.

"I had pain pretty much all year until the last few weeks," MacDougal said. "Not necessarily serious, but now I feel free and clear. My arm has felt healthy for the last four or five days or the last week or so. It's feeling good."

MacDougal's 6.23 ERA over 31 games with the White Sox has been a major problem in the team's overall bullpen alignment. MacDougal was slotted in as the White Sox right-handed setup man.

Seriously, f*** Darin Erstad. That was probably the most easily predictable failure of KW's tenure, he should seriously just retire. Do you suppose the Angles' 1B coaching job could open up for Darin this offseason?

It has to be Haegar to get sent down with both Floyd and Contreras on this roster. Chuck hasn't even looked effective so far.

I could see Count placed on the DL, but I have no idea who would come up then.

I think it's Dubee's turn.

I had pain pretty much all year until the last few weeks," MacDougal said. "Not necessarily serious, but now I feel free and clear. My arm has felt healthy for the last four or five days or the last week or so. It's feeling good.

Didn't he say he was perfectly fine all this year even through his rough stretch?

I hope he's healthy and ready to be back to normal. We need him bad... for next season.

Swapping out Mackowiak for Erstad won't do much for the Sox' shot at staying ahead of the Royals, certainly, but then they can hug Ersty close and remind themselves how really, really keen it was to get such a solid citizen last winter, instead of somebody who might help them score a few runs.

Indeed -- thanks for sharing

Duly forwarded to all my fellow sox fans currently wallowing in the mire...

I worry about AJ next season.
