This question might just come to fruition, and the 2008 White Sox thread made me think of this. If we're choosing between keeping Jermaine and bring back Rowand, and only have the one money to do 1, what do you do?

So we can pick either a guy who was the WS MVP, and had an MVP season last year. Has a history of producing. Or a guy who projected to be a 4th OF, and hit well this year and pretty much this year only. Now I know, one guys smashes his face into walls and all and that is pretty nifty. But I will have to side with the slugger who makes the team dangerous.

Yeah if I had to pick, I keep JD and try and figure out a way to have whoever your leadoff hitter is going to be playing CF if it comes down to that choice.

I would assume if you get both, Fields is in LF and Crede at 3B.

And that would seem to be ideal, especially if we have a strong defensive CF (Rowand or Hunter or otherwise).

There is-EVERYTHING at the park is sponsored. How much add'l $ has been generated by Scout Seats and Jim Beam club, the fan deck rented every night. The team is a cash cow-if you have to spend 5 more mil to have a major league outfield-it should be done. PERIOD

 

It all depends on the money.

 

If you ask JD or ARow with both of them at $10 mil, probably JD. If you have to go higher than that on Dye, or you have to take him for more than 3 years, you have to say no to Dye.

 

Of course, I think it'd be insane to offer Rowand the kind of money other teams will after this season.

If you are saying they are for the same amount of money i will take the younger Aaron Rowand. Not only is he younger but he gets Erstad out of the lineup assuming Owens will play left.

Well, the thing is that you know the Sox will give one spot to either Sweeney, Owens or Fields, miright ?

 

They aren't going to sign Jones or Hunter or anyone else wanting $ 80 mil. +

 

Dye and Rowand both will sign at a discount so why not ?

 

What's the alternative ? Trade for a good outfielder ? Ok. But, they only have so much that they can afford to trade. If they do that, then I guess the infield is set as it is now.

 

If we have 2 young guys in the OF, then why aren't we embarking on a complete rebuilding process ?

If Crede is healthy, I can see an OF of Owens, Fields, and Dye. I wouldn't actually mind that too much. If Crede is not healthy, then I would hope that we would sign both Dye and Rowand. Then, we would have Owens Dye and Rowand out there.

 

To me, the big issue with this team for next year is the SS position. We need something better there next year. There are a lot of good options with the OF; I don't see much available for a SS.

It's pretty simple really. Arow is not going to be as good as many of you here want him to be. All we will read for the next 3 years is what a let down Rowand is, and why did we get this POS back, and on and on and on...

 

We need a new, "soxunknown" quantity in CF. What that is, I don't know... but for all the Arow love around here, it's a setup for a HUGE letdown when he's not playing for a contract.

 

How about both with Owens playing LF. I think Rowand could be signed for a reasonable 3 year 21-23 mill range. And Dye could be signed for a similar 2 year 15 mill range with some incentives.

 

I think Andruw Jones and Tori Hunter are out of the question as they will get HUGE contracts from somebody. I think KW will get fancy with some sort of major deal this offseason in regards to Crede and Contreras or maybe even Garland. Like a package for a stud SS or possibly even a guy like Chone Figgins to be our new leadoff hitter. If this happens then he can play LF and Owens could be our super-sub OFer.

 

The question is, what SS is out there to be dealt? KW seems to be very interested in Tejada.. however his health is a concern but so is Crede's. Maybe a Contreras, Crede deal to Baltamore for Tejada?

 

According to Buerhle and the Tribune, KW did say he is going to go after some major names this offseason, well guys like Tejada, Figgins and Rowand would be a nice offseason. Honestly though, i don't know what the hell KW has in mind to improve this team....

I don't think there's nearly as much of this going on as you make it seem. If it is there, I'm not seeing it.

For those who are paying attention, yes, exactly.

 

I don't think Aaron will put up nearly as great of numbers as he has this year, but I get the feeling he will outproduce Dye over the next 3-4 years.

I'm no Rowand lover or grinder lover, but if I had to choose between both of them at pretty much the same price but Rowand for 4 years and Dye for 2-3, I'd choose Rowand. Rowand adds more speed, better defense, and fills our CF hole.

 

Now, I know Rowand won't be the player he is in phillie, but I think he will be better then what he was for us back in 05. Also, he might be an injury risk with his "grinder play", Dye is a huge injury risk in his own right. Plus, there is no doubt that Dye's bat has slowed down, IMO.

 

Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see some team (Texas?) offer Dye 3 years for 36 million or so with an option for a 4th year, and that's just to much.

I'd take Dye. This question is too easy. We all see what he can do when healthy.

That's one of the best lines of this dismal season I think.

Keep Dye. Don't you think next year the balls will be flying out of the parks

again? After the home run dry spell they'll juice the balls again.

The shift is bothersome and he is I fear on the decline cause of his back.
