Ozzie Extension

If you want to show a little something, then why not just pick up Ozzie's team option for 2009 right now? Being committed for 2 more seasons isn't enough?

I really don't see the problem with extending Ozzie. It's been obvious for a while that he would be with the team for the foreseeable future.

And in the biggest of blind spots, they've extended Guillen despite the probable offseason availability of Tony La Russa, who never would have allowed the Sox to collapse the last two seasons and surely would point a talented team toward the playoffs next year.

This may be the dumbest thing Mariotti has ever every written.

LaRussa is a hack. He like all managers wins with talent, loses w/out talent.

The Sox talent right now is in question.

Must be nice to be Mariotti; change his opinion every day and when questioned about it by guys on that TV show says with a frumpy face, 'hey, things change.'

Ozzie is as good as any manager out there.

La Russa is no savior and Mariotti knows that.

Good move by JR and KW. Ozzie cares about being the manager for our White Sox, unlike the other stiffs who were there before him.

To those who say Ozzie has done a lousy job this yr, I'll defer to Pete Rose:

"Can't drive the stagecoach without the horses."

Ozzie has had dead horses since April. Time for KW to hook up Oz with fresh ones.

I'll be the first one laughing when people start once again complaining about Kenny and Ozzie being horrible. On the other hand, the idea of Mariotti being right about anything (although he is right from time to time)... *shudder*

If nothing else, the thought of Ozzie sticking it to Mariotti for 5 more years may have justified the extension all by itself. Reinsdorf himself called Mariotti a Pissant, and Ozzie called him a f***** so I doubt his 'scathing' column upset anyone at 35th and Shields.

I hope anyone who despises Ozzie watched this series with the cubs vs the Astros. You can see what we could have as a manager, and then we would all kill ourselves.

OK I'm an Ozzie fan no doubt, but offering a guy a five-year contract when you've got the worst record in all of baseball?

I'm not THAT much of a fan.

If La Russa can keep the St. Louis Cardinals in contention through their constant storm of tragedies and crises, imagine how he might whip the Sox into quick shape.

Tony Larussa as White Sox manager

1983: 99-63

1984: 74-88

Shouldn't that line be, LaRussa would never have allowed the Sox to collapse - again?

Pfft. Kotex-boy is probably over-joyed. It means he has writing material for a long, long time.

Excellent. Very astute observation.

Ozzie now saying that not everyone on the current coaching staff is guaranteed a job in 2008.

Yes, but it sounds like Walker and Cooper are safe. Funny enough, that article makes it seem like Razor might not be back.

Its not like he's had a lot to do at 3rd base this year. It would be hysterical if he and the Chief, the bullpen catcher get the axe. Ozzie did say Razor was doing a good job, about what he said about Raines before he was replaced. I hope they keep Razor around, although I've heard he rubs some people the wrong way, but so does just about everybody.
