All I'll say on Walker is this.

The Sox hitters have 3 months to perform. And you can throw out the excuses with cold weather, new players etc., but Walker has had plenty of time to get this group to perform and he hasn't gotten the job done with quite a few players e.g Juan Uribe.

Would you consider Ron Gardenhire to be a pretty good manager? Well I hope not, he was nothing more than a fringe player in the bigs. How can he possibly relate to the modern professional star athlete? He never lived that life.

On a similar note, Billy Beane obviously knows nothing about baseball because he was never very good at it during his pro career.

I remember reading somewhere that those who were actually very good hitters at the big league level generally aren't very good coaches, because they tend to try to force you to do what they did since it worked.

I can't believe walker's getting bashed already and position players haven't even reported yet.

I do love baseball....

Just out of curiosity, who do people consider to be some of the better hitting coaches in the league?

Milt Thompson

Ron Gardenhire, playing career

777 career PA's...thats why hes good

Yes I recalled seeing baseball cards of his. At somepoint, someone surely doctored it into "Ron Gardenhose" and sent it in to Beckett.

It's an epidemic in this town. If the team performs poorly blame the coaches or management. It's never the fault of the players. The coaches just can't coach the players properly.

Frankly, I'm more concerned that our manager has a career OBP of .287.

Seriously though, the correlation between playing success and coaching success is quite weak.

I'm sure this has been posted before, but I wanted to bring it up again.

Doesn't make any sense. His highest batting average was .294. His highest obp was .346. He shouldn't be instructing.

I agree. And where does KW and his .218 career average get off being a GM? How the hell can Theo Epstein be a GM when he never even played in the major leagues. Same with the Texas hitting coach? Why does this board even exist. None of us have any major league hits or strikeouts or wins or saves, how the hell can anyone know anything without that?

Because we are all smarter than the so called professionals. Haven't you figured that out by now?

BTW, heard a great segment on Cowherd's show today. Basically about a third or more of baseball's GMs hold degrees from Ivy League and similar schools. K-Dub is quite at home in baseball being a Stanford Alum. So it seems if you are going to impersonate a baseball insider, claiming an Ivy League degree is great cover.

Anyway, the GM as CEO comparison makes sense in the suits.

KW is one of only 2 GMs in the league who are former major league baseball players.

KW did not graduate from Stanford, therefore he is not an alum.
