March 13, 200818 yr Big Ten tournament gets an auto bid. So regardless of who wins they are in. Many tourneys have auto bids.
March 13, 200818 yr QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) Why is it ridiculous? It is the same for every conference in the country (except for the Ivy league who doesn't have a tourney). If you find a way to win 4 games in 4 days and win your conference tourney you deserve to go to the dance. That didnt really answer my question. Your right so if Northwestern the epitome of bad wins the Big Ten its justified they deserve a bid. This is a rule they gotta get rid of, no team who only won one conference game deserves any reason why they should deserve a bid even if by winning they get an autobid into tourney. I'm really gonna pull for NW to win their game today and win out just to show how much of a joke it would be. Edited March 13, 200818 yr by ChWRoCk2
March 13, 200818 yr The only league that doesn't determine their automatic bid based on who wins their league tournament is the Ivy League, because they are the only one that doesn't have a tournament. I thought everybody knew that though.

Just like Colorado would if they pulled off a miracle in the Big 12, Oregon State had they pulled off a miracle in the Pac 10 tournament. How would it be a joke? If NW is able to win the Big 10 tournament and likely beat IU, PU, and Wisconsin in order they absolutely would have earned a bid. Would they be one of the best 65 teams in country? Of course not but the NCAA isn't the top 65 teams in the tournament and the best part of march madness is that everyone gets a chance to do something special. What the hell would be the point to all these tournaments if the winner didn't get awarded with a bid to the NCAA tournament?

Yes I do know the ivy league has no tourney, their season was over last week or something.

It's very rare you see a team under .500 win a league tourney, and when it does happen it's almost always in a mid major league, so your not that far off track.

March 13, 200818 yr QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) New to college basketball, eh? More like far from new I never have paid attention to this bid stuff really till this year, usually just wait to see who gets in on selection sunday. Something just told me theres been teams that won conference who didnt get bid, just gut feeling I was wrong big f***ing deal. Edited March 13, 200818 yr by ChWRoCk2
March 13, 200818 yr This game sucks. At least it means nothing. What the f***, why is Travis f***ing Busch in? Jesus H Christ.. AND Kevin Payton? At the same time? You do realize Busch and Payton both suck and have no right being on a Big 10 team, right Tubby? Edited March 13, 200818 yr by Felix
March 13, 200818 yr Embarrassing first half. Absolutely embarrassing. Again, it's a really, really good thing this game means absolutely nothing, because otherwise I'd be much more pissed off than I actually am. Edited March 13, 200818 yr by Felix
March 13, 200818 yr It's far from over. Northwestern has been in this spot a couple times this year before. I'll give NU a 60% chance of winning at this point, that might even be nice.
March 13, 200818 yr Lawrence Westbrook, I knew there was a reason I liked you. And there's still no reason Kevin Payton should be on the court.
March 13, 200818 yr A win is a win.... right? That was terrible, though. Edited March 13, 200818 yr by Felix
March 13, 200818 yr on one hand, i'm happy illinois won. i'm an illini fan, and when your team wins you should be a little happy at least. and i'm happy for chet. he's taken a lot of tihs for something that really isn't his fault. if he was playing his proper role on this team (any team) he'd be a fan favorite. he plays hard as hell, is gutsy, and clearly cares. but he's forced to be something he's not, and his every flaw is exposed again and again. on the other hand, i'm not happy illinois won. you struggle to beat a crap team without it's two best players? you almost let a win run down your leg yet again? christ. plus this means i have to watch one more game of wretched illinois basketball this year. one more game of horrid offense, bad free throw shooting, and dudes choking? ugh. (i-l-l...)

(i-l-l...) I give them a 40-60 chance tonight against Purdue. They've played them tough. Hopefully Purdue has an off night and we can come out with a win and keep the dream train alive. One thing I'm excited for: Shaun Pruitt and Brian Randle no longer having eligibility.
March 14, 200818 yr Huge game for Ohio St today, they have been pretty hot lately so I would not be shocked to see the upset.
March 14, 200818 yr Wisconsin won an ugly one earlier by a comfortable margin, and Ohio State just went pop. Even with the events of yesterday, I just don't think you can justify the idea that Ohio State is one of the 34 best teams to not win their conference tournament.
March 14, 200818 yr Um Purdue, why is Garret Mocas in the game, he hasn't played more than a minute all year and all of a sudden hes playing in a pretty big game. Wow Purdue, awful game to watch, why would you not foul them and put them on the line up 3 at closing seconds of second half. Edited March 15, 200818 yr by ChWRoCk2
