Official CBI Thread

Featured Replies

I am captain of this little journey. Since I don't know anything about postseason basketball, I'll take the reins on this one.

Is Iowa State going to make the CBI? I don't really know anything about it.

Like hitching your wagon to a tree stump.

Nope.

When is this field being announced?

Tonight.

I've heard UVA is in this, but Ga Tech and Illinois will not due to turning it down.

Why would Illinois turn down this? Is more games!!

Big 12 made a choice as a conference to not get involved with the CBI.

I'm under the impression that a lot of big name schools feel that the CBI is a joke.

Bradley accepted a bid already.

I had no idea that is how big schools and conferences felt about it.

I was told by a GT official on Friday that they'd turn it down, and the whole ACC was supposed to do so. I don't know why UVa accepted it though.

What the hell is the CBI? Is this just another tournament like the NIT? Is there really a need for two tournaments for those teams that didn't make the NCAA?

Another way for schools to get $$ by exploiting their students and alumni.

Yeah, I don't see the downside to playing in the CBI. Like you said, more practice/games to help build toward next year. Plus, even if it is a bunch of (sub-).500 teams, you still get the tournament-like experience, playing multiple games in a few days. I mean, a tournament with Illinois, Virginia, GT, and other programs like that would be a really good experience for the players. Those aren't bad teams necessarily.

From what I just read, two reasons for teams to turn it down are that the home team has to expense the game, and teams fear a backlash by the NCAA for being in a tournament against their NIT.

read somewhere that the CBI wanted 60K from the home team for each game.

It's spring break for a lot of schools and no one will show up. Not worth the hassle.
