Well, if my kid wants to do that, so be it. I'll happily engage them in debate, even at a young age. But young is young, they haven't necessarily learned yet where they will actually stand on things. Rush is just a windbag anyway, regardless of what side of the argument he's on, so I'm sure your daughter will figure that out eventually.

It's quite obvious she isn't trying to learn these things on her own. She shows absolutely know interest in anything political when she's with me. I'm sure it's her mother feeding here the standard talking points.

I hear you.

It's so disheartening to have my daughter come up from Texas and parrot Rush Limbaugh talking points. I'm astounded that her mother would be so petty and immature to brain wash a pre-teen like that. I don't remember giving a rats ass about politics when I was 12 and 13.

Eh, I feel the exact opposite. I see too many kids today who don't know anything or give a crap about the world around them. The talking points be damned, but kids need to understand current events to get a perspective on the history they are learning. Doing that is a natural segue into politics.

See my last post. She's being brain washed. She shows no interest in politics.

You don't get an understanding of current events by listening to Limbaugh or any other demagogue. That includes Stewart and Colbert, to a point.

teaching kids satire is important. In my senior year of high school half the kids didn't understand Jonathan Swift wasn't serious in a modest proposal.

If it makes you feel better, I loved Limbaugh's show when I was 14 and 15. By the time I was 16, I'd matured enough to know better.

back to the co-worker pulling his kids from class, here's a recent interoffice IM exchange:

HIM: By the way, the cary school district will not be participating in the event. The district promotes a balanced approach to education.

ME: who's our other president?

ME: i thought we had 1 leader

Cary, IL?

Cary, IL?

Indeed

Some Parents Choose Not to Allow Their Kids to Hear Obama's National Address

Regine Gordon doesn't want her 6-year-old son to hear from President Obama next week.

Gordon, of Tampa, Fla., is among a growing number of parents across the country who are troubled by the president's plan to address elementary, middle and high school students in an online speech Tuesday.

"It's a form of indoctrination, and I think, really, it's indicative of the culture that the Obama administration is trying to create," Gordon told FOXNews.com on Thursday. "It's very socialistic."

Regine Gordon does not have any idea what the word 'socialism' means.

These text exchanges just get so strange sometimes.

it's amazing how republicans can push a word or phrase like "death panels" and "indoctrination" and it's just all over the place in a day. And the dems can't even get people to understand what the f*** a public option is.

You don't understand what Stewart and Colbert are doing if you don't already have an understanding of a lot of the things they're talking about before they broach them.

They're doing the same thing that Limbaugh's doing, except they get a pass because they're on the "Comedy Channel". But go on thinking whatever you want to about it.

Sure, I'd agree with that. I was throwing out some left-side names because I don't know any lefty radio/ TV personalities really (not that there aren't any, I just ignore its existence).

Still, you're not going to become informed just by watching either of them; like you said, you need to have a decent understanding of current events before watching or you won't get the humor. But they still present a slanted approach, even if its not nearly as much demagoguery as Limbaigh or Hannity.

Not really, but we've had this argument before.

Awesome user comment in TPM:

How long did it take the right to go from: "if you criticize the President you are a traitor" to "School children should not trust the President."
