alright, here's how the process goes or has gone

 

player A gets injured...not bad enough to sit, but bad enough that it's a nuisance.

player A continues to play, pain continues to manifest, and player A struggles because of it

player A takes a bit off, hopes pain goes away, and comes back...pain has apparently not gone away

player A continues to hope and pray it goes away and another injury comes up, where player A has to go on the DL

player A now rests for a good 20-30 days, letting everything heal

player A comes back after having not seen major league pitching in almost a month and is a little rusty, perhaps playing with phantom pain as well

player A starts swinging the bat well, but the balls aren't falling yet; player A is also mired in a bit of a slump due to rustiness

player A finally starts hitting and seeing the ball well and not just swinging well, but hitting them at people

player A is playing well

 

As far as I've ever seen, that's a pretty general synopsis of where Paul Konerko is to this point in the season...it happens. He is at the second to last phase, and if you watched the game tonight, you would have seen that.

 

So yeah, everyone please keep telling me about how badly Paul Konerko sucks, even 3 weeks later when his average has risen 25 points, he's up to 15 homers on the season, and his OPS is up to .735. You did it to me and everyone else for Jim Thome too, even though he was a good player as of about June 1st.

 

What's funny is the same guy who says Konerko is so horrible wanted KW to trade for Geoff Blum. The same guy also thought Sunday was a must win game.

 

The best part was the post game interview with Swish, which they moved into the dugout so he could watch for the inevitable shaving cream pie... So Toby Hall sneaks through the guts of the park, into the 3rd base camera well, then sneaks into the dugout and whams him with a facefull of shaving cream anyways.

I think the number of pied players greatly exceeds the number of non-pied players this year

I must say that I admire Mark Buerhle tremendously. He wanted to pitch on 3 days rest to help the team thus it is correct to call him an ultimate team player. But, most importantly he did it for his grandfather and that makes him a real person. We sometimes forget that when we talk about ball players I think.

If you have satellite TV, I'm pretty sure you can get Concast. They will blackout the games, but you should get the rest.

So missing the first 2 games of the Dodgers series (20 days after the wrist injury) with a lower back tightness (same thing he has now) followed by a 20 game stretch where he managed a .186/.234/.314/.548 line doesn't count?

He sucks. His OPS is .682, he is slugging .362, this is Orlando Cabrera territory. I only saw his first two at bats last night, the first was a cookie that Paulie a few years ago would have deposited into the left field stands, but this one popped out weakly. His next at bat was another DP that luckily scored a run due to the work of his teammates.

 

What makes you so sure he's going to improve?

 

His numbers before the DL stint: .215 .322 .368 .691

After: .218 .321 .362 .682

 

1 HR since his return

 

 

I even picked him up on my fantasy team thinking he was going to snap out of it, but he is showing zero signs of it turning around whatsoever. Its getting to the point where he is a bench player for this team. s***, our utility bench whipping boy is out slugging Paul.

Last time somebody bashed me like this after a game, we went 1-3 from there up to now.

I used to think the Sox success depended on my attendance at the games, which hat I wore and to which side of my head the bill was positioned. Glad to know I am off the hook.
