Sox most aggressive team seeking help

Featured Replies

As of Mon. night, Tues 2:00 am, BP states that the sox are the most aggressive team seeking a trade. He points to the sox seeking relief help. That being the case, who does everyone see being targeted? With boone being called out on his ineffectiveness, I see the sox looking for a LHP who can get both RHB and LHBs out. I'd like the sox to get Scott Downs, from the Blue Jays. He gets groundballs, has good control, and keeps the ball in the park. He'd also be under team control, IIRC, for 2 years. I'd say goodbye to Masset and another peice.

Teams are asking for too much right now. Just an example is what the Pirates want for Jason Bay from Atlanta. They were offered 4 minor leaguers , one of whom had a pretty good stint with the Braves earlier in the year, and turned it down. 4 young guys , one of whom is major league ready for a guy who is only under contract for the rest of this year and 2009 seemed like way too much to give up but yet the Pirates said no. Won't be much happening till some of these teams lower their demands , maybe at the last minute.

Sox Not Likely To Add Piece

Williams, Sox Content to Stand Pat

Sox Most Agressive Team

Which to believe?

No matter what, look at the standings and you know the "buyers" from the "cellers". If you are a celler seller, you would have Kenny on your speed dial, even if he is not actively looking, he's going to get plenty of phone calls.

We are the most aggressive team to not do anything and watch the season slip away. Konerko, Massett, Wasserman oh my!!

Other than Carl Everett has Kenny ever made a big trade at the deadline?

Given that the media have morphed into used car salesmen over the past couple of decades, the answer is, "None of the above."

Contreras which didn't seem huge at the time turned out to be very big. Before KW, Schueler got Charles Johnson in 2000. He played huge those last couple of months.

There was an article a couple years back that basically showed that a deadline pick up rarely ever made a difference.

Contreras...

Garcia came like a week before the deadline, does that count?

I agree just because Kenny is being aggressive doesn't mean he'll add someone. With the prices teams are asking for even potential free agents, I hate to see what teams would ask for decent players who'd be locked up for a year or two.

It's safe to say, if the sox don't get their guy [an arm--someone from the AL who has had proven success, who'd be locked up beyond 2008, without getting reamed in the deal], Kenny will stick with the core group. And maybe take a chance on an arm from the minors. I'd like to see Broadway replace Masset, who has no business being put in any game for the sox.

I think the Pirates ownership actually nixed that deal IIRC. Lillibridge was one of the prospects who would have gone the other way I think.

Seems quite crazy to me, as the Pirates just need to load up on their minor league system.

Try a month.

Geoff Blum...he won a World Series game

Call me crazy, but, I don't think the team needs bullpen help from outside the organization. Assuming Linebrink really is just sore/tired and will be back in early or mid August, then IMO, the only real weak spot in the pen is Masset. And right now, he's the last man called, since Carrasco is the long guy. In fact, I'd suggest that if they get rid of Masset somehow and keep Wassermann when Linebrink comes back, that the Sox have a pretty strong pen. Thornton is fine, he just needed a few days off, and came back strong.

The only two X factors are Linebrink's condition (if its actually a longer term problem), and Logan's sudden crapiness. If the club feels neither are long term issues, then, no big deal. No reason to go out and make a trade. I'd only go trading if Linebrink is thought to be truly injured, and if the deal was right. Logan, like all young relievers, is subject to some down periods.

I am more worried about Crede's injury, and Konerko's being lost out there, than I am about the pen.

Buster Olney was just on espn and said the White Sox are talking to Oakland about Street and dangling Cabrera out there and the Dodgers need a SS. I don't understand getting rid of Cabrera if you're not going to get a starter. Richar and Getz don't do it for me for the stretch run.

I'll be surprised if it works for Williams either. I don't think there is any question Cabrera is being shopped, but I don't see them creating a hole at 2b like that.

I bet we'd try and get Mark Ellis as well.

They put Uribe back in the starting spot. I think they are liking the fact that he's fitting in well with the clubhouse. Honestly, I wouldn't trade Cabrera until you can get someone similar or better offensively.

why would the A's want Cabrera? He's going to be an un-restricted FA and the A's are waaay out of the playoff hunt. Doesnt make sense to me unless there is a 3 team deal in the works....

Yeah, possible 3-way deal with Dodgers. Also, don't underestimate OC's value to some teams that value compensation picks.

Aka, Oakland. Beane values comp picks more than any GM in baseball (and he's smart for it).
