Bingo. Wanna stop someone from posing? Don't let them hit a HR off of you. That simple. Posing is not a reason to hit someone.

LOL at how plain the logic is here. Agreed.

Do you really need to bunt to get ONE baserunner though? when the other team is scoreless and looking helpless?

It is bush league what Teahen did...the Royals didn't need a baserunner at the time - not when you're up by 6 runs - and it wasn't that hard to get baserunners against the Sox that day either, seeing as how the Royals scored 14 runs and had like 19 or 20 hits. There's no need to bunt. So I can definitely see justification for throwing at him. Sure, the game's not out of hand yet, but it's also not close either.

It's also definitely a much worse time to bunt than Ben Davis's bunt against Curt Schilling about 5-6 years ago when Schilling had a perfect game going as the Padres were down by 2 in the 8th inning or so. With a baserunner in that scenario, you are a home run away from tying the game; in Teahen's case, you are a baserunner and a big hit away from seeing a big lead turn into a monstrous lead. There's just no need to bunt in the case of Teahen.

I was in the car when this happened and Farmer and Stone had no problem with Teahan bunting. Didn't the Sox make the game before interesting late? Farmer said, and I agree with this, its no problem unless the losing team says it will shut down its offense for the rest of the game which of course isn't what they are going to do. 6-0 with some of KC's pitchers, is nothing on some days.

Exactly.

Ozzie sounds like a whiny brat for crying about Teahan bunting to get on base. If you want to stop KC from getting on base and scoring runs, pitch better and get some outs. Don't fault them for continuing to try to score in the 6th inning. There's no reason to fault Teahan for trying to get to first any way he can. Why is bunting for a single any worse than hitting a single or even a HR? Should Teahan just go up there and rest his bat on his shoulder since they're up by a whole 6 runs?

Its not about the bunt, the throwing at a player, or anything else in that article. This is Ozzie going out there and taking the attention of a team that is playing like s*** and putting it on himself, again. Everytime this team has played badly for a stretch, one of this tantrums has happened. Then the team relaxes and starts to play better. Its like Ozzie has a milkbone and all of the idiot reporters are dogs that run off chasing the milkbone to where-ever he throws it to.

Is Ozzie that smart? Really.

I say it's a co-inkee-dinkee.

Go back and map out his temper tantrums over this year and the years past.

Well, it seems to coincidentally happen every time the Sox are slumping. Just saying

I realize that the pattern is there, but can you really link it to the attention from the press being off the players and onto Ozzie??

Maybe, it's just like at all of our jobs, when the boss is pissed, everyone knows it and everyone walks on eggshells and kicks their game up a notch.

Does the reasoning matter? It seems if the results are there, that's what really matters.

I wouldn't blast on the reporters. They realize a good story when they see/hear one and Ozzie always is good copy. They'd be fired if they ignored the stuff he puts out there.

Of course not, he goes nuts and the team catches fire, that's a fact. But when people try to say that Ozzie intentionally does it to get the press off the players. C'mon. He's not that smart and I hope they're not that fragile.

Ozzie has said several times previously that he says things to the press to keep the press from beratiing his players.

I don't recall that, but if he believes he has to protect his players from the media, then he must not think much of his players. It also seems out of character for Ozzie. He strikes me as the kind of guy who would tell his team to grow a pair and ignore the media.

Sorry, but Ozzie's a pretty bright guy. Especially when it comes to handling players.

I have to disagree with your whole premise, LasMedias. In fact, I'd say Ozzie's abilities with the personalities of his players, and the media are two of his strong points.

Just because a man speaks broken English and every other word out of his mouth if f***, s***, or f***s*** doesn't mean he's not smart. Ozzie would probably have been a psychology major because he seems to know how to f*** with people.

He's also an asshole, which is one of the reasons I love him.

But how many of them have stopped, perked up their ears, and said

"why is he throwing this milkbone right now?" and "what happens after we chase it down?"

Guess what, the offense woke up and carried this team. Surprised? I'm not.

Its not about being fragile, its about being a good boss. A guy like that knows that just because he is getting heat from his boss, doesn't mean he needs to pass it down hill. They realize that to get guys relaxed and doing their best work, they need to function in their ideal enviornment. For a baseball player answering repeated questions about why *you* are playing badly, really doesn't help. Its much easier when everyone is questioning Ozzie about his latest rant to go about your business and play ball.
