Democratic Convention Talk

Given the ten minutes or so he gave personal responsibility, I actually thought you'd like the speech.

I actually just posted an article in the GOP thread that kind of adressed that... yes he mentioned it, but then he also talked about someone else being responsible, which to me made no sense. But it did actually give me an idea for a separate thread...

I would love to see ANY specifics from McCain on anything. The "Don't vote for Obama" routine is getting a bit old. How about a reason to "vote for me"?

The ad he ran during the olympics had a lot of that.

I think his general theme there was something along the lines of "people first, America is people" but then he transitioned into the responsibilities of leadership. But his general point was that even despite that, people working together can do more than the government ever can, although he didn't say that exactly.

Which is exactly what Republicans have been saying for generations.

Do you know what attracts me to Obama and why I like him so much? It wasn't his line antagonizing McCain that he was ready to debate, it was his line about how politics don't make the man. Politics have gotten way too personal the past 8 years, with Rove marginalizing half of this country as unpatriotic. But the truth is I enjoy every poster on this board, alpha dog, mr genius, kap, so what if we disagree. There has been way too much emphasis that if you are x then you are unpatriotic or you are a fascist when that is not how we live. I'm hopeful in x years we can move to a much more central ground of understanding.

Yea, that speech was in no way bi-partisan, other than the fact he was attacking the GOP canidate

To paraphrase what Howard Fineman just said on MSNBC: In his "listening post", he has talked to a lot of republican / McCain people. The McCain campaign soiled themselves tonight. They did NOT see some of what Obama said coming. They were caught flat footed. They are planning a soft, low key, "boring" by comparison convention.

That isnt good for them.

How could they NOT see what was coming? I call BS on this. Sorry, these guys aren't stupid, nor are the people running these campaigns. I guarantee you they have 10 speeches written just in case Obama says something out of the blue. But really, what did he say that came from left field? To me 90% of it was predictable "Repubs hate people and want you to be poor and sick, Dems love people and will give you money and healthcare." The ONLY thing that was suprising to me was how much Obama went after McCain and some of his specific goals he'd like to achieve (like the 10 year pledge).

And how on earth could they see this as being a soft, low key convention? It was history in the making. It was a black man accepting his parties nomination in front of 80,000 people, with lines to get in stretching all of downtown, on the 40th anniversary of the "i have a dream" speech.

Oh, and that guy was on MSNBC so... consider the source.

Then why did they stop?

They haven't.

They haven't.

It's been overshadowed by other stuff, mainly the crazy spending that completely undermines that argument.

Their actions beg to differ.

Gallup is now showing a 49-41 lead, making a 10 point bounce for the convention.

Presumably that poll wouldn't show anything officially related to BO's speech. As a telemarketer myself...last night wasn't very good for calling.

The official definition I think is the Monday-Monday definition.

For those who asked, here is a link to watch the Obama speech.

Danke, sir. I'll try to watch over the weekend.

How many people watched the Obama speech? 38 million

3-4 million than the Olympic Ceremonies.

I didn't say the bounce was over. Tuesday's Gallup tracking showed McCain up by 2.

It was fun while it lasted but thank god everyone got out of here reletively early this morning....My city is back to pretty much normal. I can go out and have some drinks again, the police force is also back to normal. No more parades of riot police with 5 foot long cattle prods. Even though some of the officials are dissapointed. They thought a lot of people would stick around for the weekend and enjoy the mountains and other activities like the "Taste of Colorado" that is going on right now. Which I just walked past it but it looks like a podunk county fair compared to the real "Taste."

Barack Obama's acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention was seen by more than 38 million people.

Nielsen Media Research said more people watched Obama speak than watched the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing, the final "American Idol" or the Academy Awards this year. Obama talked before a live audience of 80,000 people in Denver.

His TV audience nearly doubled the amount of people who watched John Kerry accept the Democratic nomination to run against President Bush four years ago. Kerry's speech was seen by just over 20 million people.

Obama's audience might be higher, since Nielsen didn't have an estimate for how many people watched Obama on PBS or C-SPAN Thursday night.

Link.

I wonder if that counts online streaming people also, I was one of those.

Their opinion that their talking heads were more interesting than the Democratic party's propogandist speech givers was interesting. I'll choose PBS anyday.

I'm just annoyed that PBS is not in HD for me.
