As much as Bush is almost a parody of himself, this movie looks uncomfortably bad. It's almost like they tried too hard. It's boarder line one of those "scary movie" parody movies.

I have no interest in seeing it.

I will probably see it. I am hoping for an over the top parody, anything else will be too weird for me.

I know very little about the movie other than seeing the previews. Who is the target audience? Bush-backers? Bush-haters? I still can't comprehend a movie about any president within 5-10 years of leaving office, let alone one still in office. I voted "won't see it" because I know the plot already...

I have absolutely no urge to go see this movie. I've lived through the nightmare that is the last 8 years already, why do I want to review how we got there?

didn't realize it comes out today. I'll probably see it tonight.

I'm curious to see how he did it. I wish he would have waited about 15 years to make though.

You know that you're getting old when one of the Goonies plays a president in a movie.

That. Exactly that.

I might see it, just for laughs.

Anyone want to put the odds on this movie getting an Oscar nod? I think it has a chance.

Oliver stone is in M. Night Shamylan territory, or rather, reverse that. Made too much money early on, too much recognition, that we are forced into his movies getting wide screenings when they are absolutely awful.

Not interested.

Interesting note, john Williams on WGN said the movie is NOTHING like the TV teasers you see. The teasers make it out to be almost a mockumentery. But he said the movie is almost sympathetic to Bush.

Now I might be more inclined to rent it.

saw it and almost felt sorry for gwb afterwards.

I'll definitely rent it.

Saw it yesterday. Here is my review...

W was a disappointment on multiple levels. First, the presentation of the non-Bush players - Rice, Rumsfeld, Powell, Wolfowitz, Cheney, Rove... were all charicatured and waaaaaaay over the top. Laughably so, but not as a parody - you get the impression that the filmmakers really see them this way. Its ridiculous. In particular, Thandie Newton as Condaleeza Rice was just awful.

The portrayal of W was not all bad - it did show some of the key elements, good and bad. But it also put an unnecessarily strong emphasis on stupid falls. For example, they included an extended scene of him choking on a pretzel. It was disconnected from everything else. Why include that? It was just dumb.

The best part, probably, was the elder Bush's and their relationship with W. That part was semi-well done, and interesting. And it was the most believable thread in the film.

Overall, I give it 1 star out of 4. Mildly entertaining in places, touching in a few, but overall it was just a sad little bashfest that provided little of value to the audience.

was there a scene where W is flying a jet plane drunk? i thought i read something about that. W's passenger was like "is this the first time you've flown a jet?" and W was like "this is how you learn"

Hm, I don't recall a scene like that. Maybe I missed it, but, I don't remember that.

that scene was not part of the movie.

I agree about the relationship between 41 and 43. That was by far the most interesting plot line of the movie. I think the pretzel scene(s) were used to transform the movie from current tense to past tense, when he was remembering things from his past.

Sounds rushed to get it out before the election.

or before any good movies come out.
