javy for Roberts

Featured Replies

Javy had an off year.. He is still a decent pitcher (Hawk praises him constantly) besides that he has consistently pitched 200 + innings and is among the leaders in strikeouts every year.. Baltimore needs pitching we need a second baseman and leadoff hitter so could a trade for Javy for their second baseman Roberts be a possibility . We'll have to obtain another starter somewhere or use someone from within like Poreda or Richards. Good trade or is it possible? we did it last year Garland for Cabrera.

Why would the Oriole's have any interest in Javy?

No interest for Javy from the Orioles. They already have a Javy type pitcher in Daniel Cabrera. Dynamite stuff, but a mental midget.

Hawk praising someone constantly makes them a decent pitcher.............interesting.

Because he would automatically be their 2nd best starter... and help bring a veteran presence to what was the 2nd worst pitching staff in the majors last year. And they'd get two years of a veteran starter in exchange for a guy in his walk year.

Actually I think it could be the foundation of an interesting trade for both sides... but it's likely there would be other players involved rather than just a one-for-one trade.

We'd have to cover part of Javy's salary for that to happen.

Come on... Daniel Cabrera in nowhere near the pitcher Javy is.

Cabrera is still at the point in his career where it's not clear he can hold onto a starter position on a crap team. He's never had one season with an ERA near Javy's career average. Not a good comparison.

I heard the O's were trying to sign Roberts to an extension. I guess if Roberts' demands are too high, they'd be more open to a trade like this since they know they'll lose him in a year. I still think the O's would want younger pitching since even the O's aren't delusional enough to think they can compete in the division in the next two years... or are they? (It is the O's after all...)

There is no way the Orioles would trade Roberts in a deal that is anchored by Javy Vazquez. The Orioles are a million miles away from being contenders. 2 years of Javy Vazquez won't do crap for them. Although, pitching for a bad team, Javy may thrive and become decent trade bait, but that's not worth the gamble of alienating the few die hards you have left and trading the face of the franchise for a journeyman pitcher.

If Roberts doesn't sign, they'll either trade him for young players, or let him Robin Ventura it and walk when the contract expires.

They coud use someone that cold give them a lot of innings and for that 12 million is a bargain he has pitched well but not in big games.. Javy record of 12 and 16 with 3.79 while pitching 218. 2 innings with 140 is close to trumping Guthrie 10 and 12 3.63 and 120 strikeouts Cabrera, and Olson the next 2have eras over 5 while only going 95 and 83 respectively.. Camden yard would be more pitcher friendly but that division is a little tougher. I would not be the one making that decision but the numbers, but may not have enough peripherals to pitch in the eastern al division.

There are going to be a ton of disappointed people here this off-season.

Maybe, but I love off season with Mr. Aggressive Kenny Williams. He thinks big and is persistent. Something will happen.

1st off: ugh.

2nd: When Javy demanded a trade while pitching for the D-Bags, one of the 6 teams he wouldn't accept a trade to was the Orioles, who were making an offer for him.

Very insightful to say the least :hawk:

The question is not whether Javier Vazquez fits on the Orioles current roster, it's whether he fits in their plans. And the answer to that question is most likely no.

The O's actually have a lot of young talent. Their OF is solid with Scott-Jones-Markakis, they have some other missing pieces (like SS), but not as many as it seems, and they have a couple solid prospects too. Their SP was outstanding for most of '07 but this year was a train wreck, it's their biggest need. I won't suggest a trade involving Vazquez especially for Roberts, but they DO need pitching. Bad. But at this stage Vazquez's salary is probably more than Angelos wants to deal with.

Just the thought of Javy right now still makes me want to puke. Hopefully that'll change as the offseason progresses. He was so bad late in the year. My god.

Daniel Cabrera sucks. He has serious health concerns right now. If anything, he'd be a throw-in instead of the main piece of a trade.

What kind of health concerns fathom? Never heard that.....

I agree. Would anyone here want to start and watch MacDougal try to go 5 innings? BUT IF HE COULD THROW STRIKES OVER THE PLATE NOBODY WILL GET A HIT OFF HIM. .79 WHIP OVER 200 INNINGS.

There's been a lot of talk the Orioles will non-tender him. He is junk that is maybe salvageable but certainly not worth giving up anything of even slight value . I like the comparison of him to MacDougal as a starter. KW has had an eye on him for years though.
