Road Trip

Featured Replies

Alright, I know I've started enough of these "I'm going to such and such, and wanna know what to do there" threads over the past year, but well I finish work here next Thursday and have 1 month to travel around America before I get kicked out of the country, so I'm going to make the most of it.

So if anyone has any advice on any of these places that I'll be going to, will be much appreciated.

Nashville (gonna go to the Flying Saucer again Northsider). I've also heard that the Blue Bird Cafe is good, as is the Loveless Cafe but that's out of town a bit.

Tampa

Orlando

Daytona Beach

San Francisco

Los Angeles

Seattle

I'm also going to Vegas and San Diego, but I've been to the later, and already have enough info on the former.

Why are we kicking you out? :(

When you go to San Fran you should check out Fort Worth.

I'd rather go to Fort McHenry. :P

There's lots of variously cool things to hit up in the L.A. area depending on what you're up for. Dodger game. Walk down Hollywood Blvd. Awful lot of cool geology. Number of places where movies you may like have been filmed. Lots of random restaurants that are particularly good at the things they do. Catch a White Sox game with Balta. Drive through wine country. If you're here in the winter there's lots of skiing surprisingly close. Number of national parks (Yosemite, Sequoia, Joshua Tree) that are close. Lots of expensive shopping districts if that's your thing (Rodeo Drive, Santa Monica Pier/3rd st. Promenade). The Hollywood Bowl. Disney. Lots of good beach. The Hollywood sign/Griffith Park/Griffith Observatory.

I'm intrigued with this hitching post you speak of. Is it really good? What would you recommend. I might take the women there.

Nashville is the only place on that list that I've really gotten to experience. I don't know what you're into as far as music, but the Wooten family plays "garage funk" at this place called 3rd & Lindsley every Wednesday night. It's a nice change from the s*** kickin' country that you'll hear at most of the clubs.

If you want something a little seedier head to Printer's Alley for some fine adult entertainment.

Go watch the movie "Sideways" first.

I watched like 10 minutes of Sideways and was bored. I take it that the Hitching Post was in the movie?

Yeah, it was featured in there quite a bit. It's supposedly a very good wine and barbeque type place. They do what IIRC is a Santa Maria style open flame BBQ.

I just googled it and it looks damn tasty. Might have to use my mileage to get a hotel and do a little PCH road trip with the gal for her birthday.

If she's watched that movie then that's like an ace in the hole, even if you didn't. :drink

I might just have her and I watch the movie that week to kind of set-it-up. So I say thanks in advance Balta, you've just made my job much easier for the end of the month.

LOL, hope it is effective.

Go down to the wharf and just walk around as well. I'd sample the sourdough pizza and I recommend the crab melt sandwich at the franciscan overlooking the Rock.

If you're a fan of beer, the Toronado in San Fran was a very excellent bar to hit up. Huge selection of the locally brewed stuff. Good sausage place next door too.

Just checked out the menu there and it looks pretty good. Will definitely check that place out for sure.

Unless youre planning on going to a theme park, there isnt much else to do here in Orlando. Unless youre looking to play some golf then there are some good places.

You are f***ing dork.

When you go to Vegas, make sure you eat at the buffet at the Bellagio. They have the best buffet in the world. Try their BBQ Swordfish, it's delicious. :)

Hotel rates are dirt-cheap in Vegas, too.

Have you ever gone to Niagara Falls?

Daytona Beach sort of sucks. Very dirty. City Walk is sorta cool, but besides that, I don't know, go to a Daytona Cubs game and see my boy Tony Thomas Jr. kick some ass. They should have some good drink specials.
