He also had a controversial procedure done on his heel called shockwave. It creates microtears in the soft tissue in an attempt to healing. The literature is split on it's effectiveness. Since he had it done, it is a fairly severe problem that is going to linger for quite a while.

That was such a Brian moment. Great break to make a good catch, then forgot how many outs there were. After realizing there were only two, he made sure to tell Pods, Dye, and the crowd in CF that there were in fact 2 outs.

I haven't read about it, but Gammons talked about it yesterday morning on ESPN while evaluating the Sox staff during "Peavy-gate." He said the Sox thought Gavin was tipping pitches and should have it corrected by his next start (today).
