June 30, 200916 yr I didn't see this anywhere so... CLEVELAND -- With the non-waiver trading deadline one month away, teams are expected to increase their evaluations and discussions. And even after White Sox general manager Ken Williams said last week he intends to remain a buyer, it won't stop other teams, such as San Francisco, from scouting Sox players who can help them for their own playoff runs. The Giants, who currently lead the National League wild-card race, sent one of their top scouts to Cleveland on Monday night to watch right fielder Jermaine Dye. Tribune
June 30, 200916 yr Author QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 09:12 PM) Sanchez and Lewis please. That. I love Lewis. He has so much potential.
June 30, 200916 yr QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) That. I love Lewis. He has so much potential. I thought so too, but he's 29 years old.
June 30, 200916 yr Author QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) I thought so too, but he's 29 years old. Well, their best hitting prospect is Buster Posey, and he's untouchable. Therefore, I'd settle with Sanchez and Tim Alderson. He's one of their better pitching prospects and he's only 21.
June 30, 200916 yr QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 07:20 PM) Not sure I would want to trade our DH next year. You can still sign him as a FA this offseason.
June 30, 200916 yr QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 10:20 PM) Not sure I would want to trade our DH next year. Filling the DH spot is the easiest thing a GM can do.
June 30, 200916 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 10:22 PM) You can still sign him as a FA this offseason. I was about to say that as well.
June 30, 200916 yr QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 10:22 PM) Oh God some of you are going to be disappointed if we trade Dye. Yeah. Alderson is too much.
June 30, 200916 yr QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 09:20 PM) Not sure I would want to trade our DH next year. He'll be a FA.
June 30, 200916 yr Wonder if we could get Connor Gillaspie back in a trade... Good 3B, real good hitter. His only real negative is lack of power.
June 30, 200916 yr I assume signing Dye would cost us a draft pick. Either way it's not worth trading him.
June 30, 200916 yr QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) I assume signing Dye would cost us a draft pick. Either way it's not worth trading him. The common assumption is that Dye won't get Arb because no team will want to pay him 10-12 million if he accepts.
June 30, 200916 yr QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) If the Sox continue to play like this, JD ain't going anywhere. This.
June 30, 200916 yr QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) If the Sox continue to play like this, JD ain't going anywhere. I'm not gonna lie, that's a pretty big if. We've had good stretches before only to hit a brick wall.
June 30, 200916 yr The Giants are oozing with impact prospects throughout their system. Unfortunately, I don't see any realistic matches. Let's just hope we're well within the playoff hunt come the trade deadline and this all becomes moot.
June 30, 200916 yr QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 07:20 PM) Well, their best hitting prospect is Buster Posey, and he's untouchable. Therefore, I'd settle with Sanchez and Tim Alderson. He's one of their better pitching prospects and he's only 21. Just an FYI, but aside from Gordon Beckham, ALderson would be the best prospect in our system and he's one of the elite pitching prospects in all of baseball. The youngest player in AA too, IIRC.
June 30, 200916 yr QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 10:03 PM) Just an FYI, but aside from Gordon Beckham, ALderson would be the best prospect in our system and he's one of the elite pitching prospects in all of baseball. The youngest player in AA too, IIRC. Alderson is sick. And he might not even be their best pitching prospect.
June 30, 200916 yr The Giants, who currently lead the National League wild-card race, sent one of their top scouts to Cleveland on Monday night to watch right fielder Jermaine Dye. WHy would they have to send a scout to look at Dye? Doesn't EVERYBODY know everything there is to know about Dye? He's a stud.
June 30, 200916 yr QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) Alderson is sick. And he might not even be their best pitching prospect. I believe that award goes to Bumgarner.
June 30, 200916 yr QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 10:10 PM) I believe that award goes to Bumgarner. Yes indeed. If these two guys are as good as many think, combined with that Lincecum guy, good god damn!
June 30, 200916 yr QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 10:11 PM) Yes indeed. If these two guys are as good as many think, combined with that Lincecum guy, good god damn! Don't forget about Cain, if they decide to keep him. Speaking of prospects on the Giants, whatever happened to Merkin Valdez?
