The Carlos Quentin Activated from DL

Featured Replies

I actually think Steve has the answer he just doesnt want to admit it.

CQ's injury is worse than we want to admit and the chances he stays healthy the rest of the year are 50/50. They sent down Anderson because he has an option and therefore if CQ cant go they can just call him back up and no harm is done.

If they sent down Wise and lost him, then CQ went on the DL they would have to call up an OF they wont have any faith in.

/shrugs

I just doubt Ozzie wants his team to have the weaker player so the options are:

1) There is a valid reason to select Wise over BA.

2)Ozzie for whatever reason values Wise over BA.

Either way it doesnt really matter. Just like Ozzie, we all have our favorites, and some times our view of a player is jaded by our perspective.

Its a 2 way street, there are hundreds of other things that have be done that bother me far more.

I just hope that Quentin's foot doesn't bother him to the extent that it robs him of his power. Otherwise he will be a base clogging singles hitter, which is still an improvement over BA/Wise in the lineup.

I think we're going to see Q hit a lot like the Josh Fields of the first two weeks of the season. He's not going to have all of his power back, but he'll be a fairly consistent doubles hitters. PS. So damn happy to have TCQ back.

Are you inferring you have faith in Wise?

No that the coaching staff has more faith in Wise than anyone else in AAA.

The only justification for Wise over Anderson is speed for pinch running. With Quentin back, we certainly have our fair share of guys who can't run -- Quentin, Thome, Konerko. Apparently, Kenny valued that over other qualities (i.e. defense) at this point in time. Don't worry, this will all seem worthwhile when Wise pinch runs and easily scores from first on a double to win us a game in the 9th inning against Detroit. Oh, wait.

Offensively, Wise is better and while I know Wise has had a worse season (and he's still a bad offensive player) Anderson really does suck offensively. However, there aren't major differences in there offensive game where defensively, Anderson is really a premiere defensive OFer. And since we are going to seriously have a major need with guys coming off our bench to play outfield defense, I'd have went with the defensive specialist.

Based on?

Terrible.

There is absolutely no justification for taking Wise over BA.

Totally agreed, it f***ing disgusts me... but there's nothing we can do about it.

Sure there is. We can continue to b**** and whine about the same thing over and over and over and over again until we're blue in the face.

Wise over BA is the stupidiest decision in the KW era and total BS! :gosoxretro: It is like KW is telling fans FU!

Totally. It would be similar to sending Pujols down for Timo Perez.

Well, this should upset a whole bunch of people.

It upsets me I can tell you for sure. No need to go over the arguments anymore, but the wrong fellow was sent down

This only facilitates the “Ozzie hates BA” argument too. This move serves only to make the organization look like fools.

I'm not a big supporter of BA's. But this move is mind-boggling. I don't hate Dewayne Wise - i'm sure he's a nice guy. But he's a terrible baseball player. And I love having BA in CF esp. late in games. I wish they would trade BA to a team that's willing to let him play.

I question sometimes this teams player evaluations and their decison making

It's easy to complain about this move, but I'd like to think there's a reason for it. Can anyone pretend you are KW for just a moment and offer a real explanation? Mine would include:

Anderson has an option left and if Q's health falters, I didn't want Wise to be long gone.

Although Wise isn't hitting for average, he does a good job of driving the ball and Anderson has never been able to hit a breaking pitch.

With Q's health--he won't be able to play everyday, and I just don't see Anderson being worthy of sharing the starts.

I don't think Restovich can play CF, so its really Hopper or Cook. And Hopper looks like another Wise to me, or similar. And Cook is of course an unknown, though he has put up far better minor league numbers than either of the other two have.

They're different players. Hopper has a .316 BA in almost 400 major league AB's and also has a career .300+ BA in AAA. He has virtually no power, but he has speed and gets on base. I'd rather have someone like that over Cook. We have enough guys who can hit the long ball. I dont want to see either of them this year, but if we had to I think Hopper would be our best bet for what this team needs.

thanks - it's a good way of looking at it

I'm really excited to see Quentin tonight. I thought this day would never come. I should have gotten tickets for tonight.

One positive way to look at this...we've used up Anderson's last minor league option. So when the end of training camp rolls around next year and Ozzie sticks with Wise again, maybe KW can turn Anderson in to another Matt Thornton.

Hope you post more, but the one point I would disagree with is that Wise would be long gone. Who would be snatching up Wise? Where would Wise go where he would be given as good of an opportunity as with the Sox? You may be right about KW's thought process, but I disagree with KW if that is the case.

                    I could live with that.

Wow that is really a stretch for a bright side. I like it. We could flip him to the Nationals for their new closer.

                    And on a brighter note...

You hit the nail on the head.

TCQ won't be 100% and he certainly won't be playing from here on out without issue.
