July 29, 200916 yr http://twitter.com/Dejan_Kovacevic/status/2912373875 Interesting, all this talk of the Mariners being sellers and then they go out and grab a solid SS.
July 29, 200916 yr Great deal for Pittsburgh. Glad we don't have to see Clement for the next six years.
July 29, 200916 yr Author Pittsburgh is doing some good things, getting Charlie Morton and Jeff Clement this year is really going to help them in the future.
July 29, 200916 yr Author Mariners get Ian Snell too. Clement, Ronny Cedeno, Aaron Pribanic, Brett Lorin and Nathan Adcock going to Pittsburgh. http://twitter.com/Dejan_Kovacevic/status/2912445065
July 29, 200916 yr Maybe Seattle thinks they can still win the AL West? But it's a curious gamble to say the least. I think they soured too quickly on Clement, and it's a nice haul for Huntington here. Can Snell actually pitch decently in the majors for Seattle?
July 29, 200916 yr QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 02:50 AM) doesnt pitt already have Doumit and Jaramillo? Yep. They could move Clement permanently to 1B though, after the LaRoche trade.
July 29, 200916 yr QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) doesnt pitt already have Doumit and Jaramillo? Thats what I was thinking. I don't quite understand how adding a 3rd MLB ready catcher fits their mold. I only assume someone else (Doumit?) is out the door. Doumit could be a nice buy-low candidate since he has been hurt all year. Still would cost a couple good prospects though.
July 29, 200916 yr QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) Why am I not seeing this deal anywhere but from some guy's twitter? It is being reported by Fox Sports as well. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9866498...y's-edition
July 29, 200916 yr Author Cedeno is the only player staying up, Clement to AAA. Goldstein & Jonathon Mayo both like the deal for Pittsburgh.
July 29, 200916 yr Wilson has a mutual option for next year at 8.4 mil which I assume the Mariners will pick up, seems a bit high for a player as mediocre as him. Not sure what Snell's contract situation is, I assume hes under their control for a few years. Intersting deal for the Mariners, I think the Pirates are doing a good job of stockpiling talent for the future.

Intersting deal for the Mariners, I think the Pirates are doing a good job of stockpiling talent for the future. Jack Wilson's a nice defensive player, but he won't be able to hit much in Safeco. M's gave up a lot for him. Edited July 29, 200916 yr by chw42
July 29, 200916 yr QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 12:27 PM) Snell's under club control until 2012. Snell's can only strike out 17 guys in AAA... In other words, he's not much of a major league arm.
July 29, 200916 yr Author Pirates are adding a "significant amount" of money according to the guy who broke this deal. Snell was a solid pitcher a couple years back, a change of scenery and a huge ballpark may help him out.

It's been their M.O. for years.
July 29, 200916 yr I don't get why people are so high on Jeff Clement, but at the same time I've never gotten the Jack Wilson hype either. Clement isn't a good defensive catcher and he's yet to really do much at the major league level. Last season he struggled greatly in Seattle and while he's put up solid minor league numbers, it is the PCL. He's a guy that gets love because he was a former top pick, imo. However, for Jack Wilson I wouldn't have given him up. Wilson gets paid a decent amount for a guy that won't hit. I'd rather have Juan Uribe, myself. Great move for the Bucco's, I don't get it if I'm a Mariner fan. Edit: I should update this. I see where the M's are getting Ian Snell back too. I like the deal a lot more now because I think Snell is the best player in the package (or at least the guy with the most upside). A change of scenery might do Snell wonders.
July 29, 200916 yr Didn't the Pirates also draft a catcher with their early 1st rd pick? The kid from Boston College?

July 29, 200916 yr Clement is not a future catcher. If his bat progresses as a lot think it will, he'll provide very similar production to Adam LaRoche for much cheaper. I think the Pirates bought a bit low on Clement much like Milledge. They're adding talent for sure.
