White Sox talk new deal with Scott Podsednik's agent

I think Pods will get 2 years for 6mil ($3mil each season ,with $1mil incentives), w/ an option third year($4 mill, $500,000 buyout). I think we all could live with that.

That would be a silly contract for a guy who was out of baseball, done, until he came back and hit pretty well. Expecting anything near that is like expecting Cliff Politte and Neal Cotts to repeat their 2005 performances. Chances are Pods is a fringe guy worthy of a release next year. Throwing that much cash at him is insane.

" If he wants to work for what his entire piece of work his career would net him, which would be less than $2 million on a one year contract perhaps with some incentives, then fine, sign him up."

You say you can live with $2 million (w/ incentives), I say $3million (w/incentives) & I'm insane. $1 million with the way our manager likes to play, is a small cookie when your looking for a legit & proven lead-off hitter. Maybe the years,(3rd year option is too much but $3 million for a proven leadoff hitter is a good price.

Who in the heck is going to give Scott Podsednik a two year deal, without one of the years involving a team option?

I for one could NOT live with that.........I would offer him 1 year at 2 mil, with incentives and if he says no then walk and keep on walking.

How come many can live with what we pay s***ty middle relievers and can't live with three mill for Pods?

Will Pods accept 3 mil though, Greg?

If he did it would have to be a long term deal with raises most likely. I don't think he will go less than $4 or $5 million and at least two years

I'm not sure what the numbers would be, but what other teams would have realistic interest in him?

And be willing to throw that kind of money at him. I really don't see him getting more than $5 million over two years... tops.

I'm not an expert, but I'd think so or hope so. I can't imagine anybody offering him more than that considering the fact his career was over til it was resurrected here. He's kind of a different case in that he seems to only play well for us.

Listen, PODS is a player and a businessman, but he's also a nice country boy who knows where he feels comfortable. I expect him to get a contract done for a reasonable amount to stay in Chicago.

I would normally agree, but I expect some desperate team to offer him something we just aren't willing to go near...

When you see what Willy Taveras got, it's possible. But Pods' defense and his inconsistency year to year should save us in this regard.

Mike Cameron is a free agent and the Brewers need to put their money into pitching. They are still not sure if Rickie Weeks is a leadoff man. They liked Pods. He played so-so CF for them. Maybe Milwaukee?
