Cops are searching the area around the boys house. The belief now is that he never got in.

Dad is a meteorologist and used the balloon for weather related study. It is not a passenger balloon, in fact, one expert felt confident the balloon was incapable of lifting an adult and expressed doubt it could have lifted a 6 year old. (CNN reporting)

and for Falcon, Moon Unit Zappa says hello ;)

So, could be a hoax. Or, could be the boy wasn't in it at all and ran off. Or, could be the boy fell out.

None are good things, but I sure as hell hope it isn't the last one.

It's amazing how the thing landed so softly and that there was a dude right there, who almost caught it.

Is the boy one of Palin's kids?

I'm guessing the kid untethered it, got scared, and is hiding. He probably is terrified his parents are going to punish him.

Or, someone abducted him and used the balloon as a diversion.

Trying to publicize their hairbrained idea of a helium air balloon. Nice publicity stunt hilbillies. Now go have another kid and give it a ridiculous name.

Snowman?

helium is the standard design for long distance. Steve Fossett set the record with a 12 day flight.

This is the weirdest news story ever

Seeing a few more pics of the thing flying, and it had a pretty serious tilt at times. Seems like the boy could have fallen out pretty easily, if he was even in there, given the tilt and that the compartment is so small.

They are apparently now scouring video footage from anyone they can find, to see if they can positively say the boy was in there at some point. Still no sign of him anywhere else.

No, that belongs to the lady who sat on the toilet for like two years and her skin started growing over the toilet.

Hot Air is updating this thing pretty well. Sounds like the boy really did make it into the baloon, the issue here is that the Box he was inside is gone. http://hotair.com/archives/2009/10/15/awfu...unaway-balloon/

Latest from there: Update: A sheriff’s deputy thought he saw “something” fall.

This is really awful.

I wasnt questioning the helium, I was questioning the weirdos who built it themselves.

Here is the picture showing a mass falling from the balloon they think...

It must not be anything because if they know who sent the picture (which they do, since it's being credited to a woman on CNN), then what the hell is taking so long to find out? Go to her house, find where she stood, and coordinate the area from there. I don't know what's around the lady's house, maybe there's a forest or body of water near by, but it's just too difficult to tell from a small smudge.

CNN Breaking News Twitter:

Sheriff reports that the 6-year-old boy who released the balloon in Colorado has been found alive at home.

What a releif!

Hahaha. How was this not known five minutes after the search began? This kid must be awesome at hide and seek.

he was in the attic in the garage

This is what happens when news outlets have to be FIRST ON THE SCENE to get EXCLUSIVE BREAKING NEWS.

They don't wait to find out what actually happened, instead they take every rumored scenario and throw it on the air.

Was that falling mass a second kid?

WHERE IS THE SECOND CHILD????

BREAKING EXCLUSIVE ON THE SCENE NEWS!!!

SECOND CHILD ONBOARD BALLOON NOW MISSING, PRESUMED DEAD OR AT LEAST MANGLED FROM HORRIFIC FALL!!!!

....or not....

The first thing that came to my mind when I saw this was, it had to have happened in Florida.

the older sibling who confirmed seeing the kid get in and fly away is what put the urgency into following the balloon and leaving a ground search for later. That is the kid who needs to be grilled over this.
